The flat lap is still working hard and rough stages are nearly completed. happy088.gif
Here is one of the Oregon double thundereggs that is really cool. signs021.gif Completely solid on one side with tube agate on the large side. The chalcedony/agate shells over the tubes are very solid and this will be one spiffy t-egg when finished! drool.gif char098.gif

A closer look at one half for a bit better details. biggrin.gif Pic is left large size so you can click on it and see the full sized image.
Kinda' looks like a moon with tentacles hanging out in there.

Here is a close up of both halves of a scrambled egg, before it was blown out with the pressure gun.
This center stuff is way too soft and crumbly when it dries to leave for polishing. Sure is cool looking though!
Pics of it after it was blown out and polished coming soon. Amazing how different it looks.

Yep, that is a Baker thunderegg, but now it's been blasted out clean and is polished out to a mirror shine.
smile.gif It looks stunning with the red/pink druzy and cool reds/oranges around the agate and in the shell agate pockets.

The rest are still on polish stages but they are getting close to finished.....and WOWSER! There are some really cool new ones coming up so keep your eyes open for those to be posted.

Here is a picture of the two halves after blowing the soft stuff out with the prerssure gun.
It almost looks velvety soft, but NOT! biggrin.gif Like tiny little crystals.

This Oregon double thunderegg is fantastic!.....Like night and day from one side to the other.
I left the image big so you can click it and view the larger photo for a more detailed view.
Enjoy! cloud9.gif

What do you do when you cut one and notice fractures through the face? sad.gif chin.gif
Keep cutting! You will be amazed at the workable material you get that will make some amazing creations. Being a protector of all thundereggs good wink.gif , I like to make sure there isnt much waste when we cut them. smile.gif

Here are the end cuts from a beautiful NM Baker thunderegg, that when cut had fractures in it. Is it me or does anyone else see a howling wolf in the one on the left, and a butterfly in the one on the right? I see carvings going on for these. chores041.gif

Attached Image

Here is a nice slab that came from the same egg, with just a few small fractures along the edge!
See the nice little crystal heart surrounded by red agate?

Attached Image

"Several other pieces from this egg that are going to make some beautiful creations", Dan says as he prys pieces from my hand. smiley-laughing021.gif He can show you pics of those slabs.

I was in White Sands for the Bataan Memorial Death March (a 26.2 mile marathon in uniform with a 35 pound pack) and had a free day the day prior, so I headed over to Rock Hound State Park ( http://www.stateparks.com/rock_hound_state_park_in_new_mexico.html ), near Deming NM, to see what I could find. "Thunderegg Trail" sounded like a great place to explore!

There was lots of Jasper about... being a rookie in that neck of the woods, unfortunately I wasted an hour or two chiseling out some small bits at the bottom of the trail when I should have been up looking for cooler stuff. Found lots of little bits of Jasper and a bunch of what I think would still be classified as thundereggs; little round nodules on rock that I chiseled off. Then I found a pocket of soft material and pulled out a nice sized stand alone one.

Not sure spending 6 hours scrambling around the hills, getting sunburned and packing out rocks was the smartest thing to do the day prior to the event, but I had fun! Will definitely get back down there and do some more exploring some day!

Here are a few crappy cell phone pics of what I found. Now I just gotta figure out what to do with them.

Very cool Crusty! I would like to make it out to the Rock Hound State park someday also. Bet there are some great spots off the beaten path unclaimed and ready to be dug as well. drool.gif emoticon-misc-004.gif

Looks like possibly some sweet finds but I really can't tell by those pictures. You're killing me here!!...... excited.gif ....I really would like to see some better pictures from that nicer camera you have. poke.gif biggrin.gif Looks like even the broken ones have something to show. The wee ones are my favorite!! Bet those are really cool inside!

(Has sudden urge to dig Thunder eggs)
