Here is a picture of a sun pillar I took this morning. I love seeing these!
This is a faint one, but a nice one none the less. Have you taken any pictures of sun pillars? If so we would love to see them. -------------------- Education is the key to the future,

Ok ok........Is not a birthplace, but I sure do see alot here lately.
Quote from Wikipedia on light pillars......... QUOTE A light pillar is a visual phenomenon created by the reflection of light from ice crystals with near horizontal parallel planar surfaces. The light can come from the sun (usually at or low to the horizon) in which case the phenomenon is called a sun pillar or solar pillar. It can also come from the moon or from terrestrial sources such as streetlights. Its not a really great one, but I got to see it in person. You want to see some cool looking sun pillars, check out this google search. Enjoy! -------------------- Education is the key to the future,

I have the perfect setup here for it, out back (looking west). The clouds (or ice crystals) have to be situated right before sunset. Almost had the shot yesterday but by the time I set up.... gone.
I'll get it. -------------------- /l ,[____], l---L-OlllllllO- ()_) ()_)--o-)_) BLACK SANDS MATTER! Very Happy CP Lifetime Member CP CORE TEAM Referral Code CE213 |

The chase to photograph one sure is fun though isnt it?! I took all those shots in the mornings. Weather has been too nice here to get one in the evenings. Keep trying Swizz, you will get one.

Just took this out back with the sun setting. Small pillar?
I had to shoot with my crummy camera and no tripod. It probably would have been better with the DSLR and polarizer filter. -------------------- /l ,[____], l---L-OlllllllO- ()_) ()_)--o-)_) BLACK SANDS MATTER! Very Happy CP Lifetime Member CP CORE TEAM Referral Code CE213 |

Sweet Swizz, that is definately a small piller!
Thats what I do, I use my crummy camera (my only camera) with no tripod. That seems like the only way I can catch one. Congrats on the piller shot, its beautiful!! -------------------- Education is the key to the future,
