Great list Scott, but always know the status of the land where your at before collecting ANYWHERE.
Lots of research involved in knowing if land is open or claimed before going out there to get the goodies.

Good luck, and stay safe.

Scott this is good advice. Many people have been "hurt" high grading someone's claim out here and because of the up swing in gold there are a lot of people that just don't know better so, miners are even more vigilant than ever.
Since you seem to know Wick real well. There is a road behind the McDonald's called Constellation Road. It's easy to find, and a beautiful ride. There are many old mines along the road and it ends at the Williams Ranch which is one of the oldest in Arizona. about 2 or 3 miles from town you will come to a big switch back in the road. If you don't know what that is you will when you see it, you practically make a "U" turn. Just pass the switch back there is a hill on the left side of the road. We call it Geode Hill because of all the Geodes that have been found there. You can't miss it because on the right side of the road someone wrote "Geode Hill" on a big rock. This IS open ground so feel free to help yourself.
If you stop at the switch back and walk up Calamity Wash, there you will find a large opening in the rock wall. If you look up, the black on the ceiling is from thousands of years of Indians cooking in there. There are also some Petroglyphs back there. There is a book in Wickenberg Books Stores that tell the history of Constellation Road. It's called "Where the Past Lives-Constellation Road". It's written in such a manner that you can drive down the road as someone else reads.( Don't read it while you drive you'll hit a cow) Now it's not up to date but it will give you some guidance on areas that are claimed and what''s not. There are a great deal of minerals along this road not just gold.
Enjoy AZ it's beautiful out here, just be careful, the Rattle Snakes come in all shapes and sizes

Ok i'm going to start up this thread for my camper and stuff i add to it because this camper is for the trip to Arizona in October...I'm getting this camper ready for Arizona to live in for awhile while i try and find work...i have been looking into mostly the western part of the state this time (Quartzsite, Parker and Lake Havasu City) if you remember back when this post was active back in 2008 i went to Wickenburg to try and find work with no success but i'm hopeing i will have better luck in the western part of the state. I like the looks of Quartzsite...it's a small town with about all you need (except for Wally World lol..have to go to Parker about 40 miles north for that) but Quartzsite looks like my kinda town with rock shops and jewelry shops everywhere http://www.manta.com/mb_51_ALL_0S8/quartzs...results...rocks rock shows/flea market shows all the time it seems http://www.desertusa.com/Cities/az/quartzite.html. Will just have to see what happens this time..just hope to have more $$$ this time then last time but NO staying in a dang expensive motel this time so that's why i got this camper. thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

I agree with Russ. I'd rather go without a shower for a couple/three days, than without some way of keeping cool.

I won't be going down until about 60 days....by then the temps. will be going down and the nights can get down to freezeing (but not like here when the temps can get below 0 ).....but accually even right now i would rather be down there then here in Kansas because the temps here have been 110-115 in the shade...now in the sun it's much worse with the high humidity (mostly temp + high pressure-makeing it hard to breath sometimes..not so much temp and moisture in the air because we haven't got much rain..just enough to make it a muggy mess lol). In Arizona what the temp. says is what it is because the humidity is much lower (except durning monsoon season). During the summer months most people in AZ do more durning the night hours because of the heat...so just think about it for awhile...3 months of heat not as bad as here then nice during the rest of the year or live up here and only have about 3 good months all year??=less time to go prospecting unless your a nut and love to prospect durning winter. lol

Here is a story i was told from a truck driver that delivered to Cross....He use to drive down to AZ all the time....he went into a barber shop and the barber asked him...How hot do you think it is outside??...the driver said.....idk...95....the barber said nope it's 105 out right now....so what does that tell ya....now here in Kansas it's opposite...it feels alot worse then it really is on the thermometer. So why is that....it's the humidity.......AZ is low humidity (dry heat) and Kansas is higher humidity (wetter heat that make you sweat like a pig out of the sun no matter where you are)...Yes i know Arizona isn't perfect but i haven't found paradise yet....lol

My cousin was back from Chanler AZ and here is what he said: Absolutely! I was just back in KS this past weekend and between the heat and humidity it was repressive! At least in AZ it is cool in the shade - except during monsoon!

It's mostly a matter of choice......live in Kansas where there is two extreams (higher humidity with heat and cold as hec during winter with "snow") or in AZ with only one extream (dry heat durning summer..except durning monsoon and mild winters with "NO SNOW") lol......what's your choice?? happy088.gif

P.S. the house i'm in right now doesn't have AC..thank god my room has a window unit...in this house it's like one extream to another going in and out of my room...lol

OH MAN! Are you ok?
Denise
smiley-shocked003.gif Dang Scott, I hope your alright!! It looks like the one in the white car was the one who was injured? I am assuming that you were driving the truck, it looks like the one you had several years ago? There was no article with the photo so we have no details of what happened.

ScottKS
Yes she was injured (mostly chest pains) but as far as I know she is ok now...yes that is the same truck...I have had it for like 7 years now...I didn't post the article because they posted the wrong story buy here is the link http://m.yumasun.com/news/driver-injured-i...kof3NU.facebook

I stopped at a stop sign off exit 30 to Wellton...looked both ways and started to pull out when she was going down the overpass hill (tall Hill) and T-boned me.
swizz
Sorry to hear this, hope you're ok also!
Looks like yer gonna need to fix your mule before Quartzite for sure.
Coalbunny
Ok, I missed this part...the paper says the 27 year old male had a gun shot wound?!?!?!
Am I missing something here?

Came across this post while pondering a trip to AZ this winter. I've got a friend in Phoenix, so I can stay there and drag my trailer along to stay out in the field for a few days at a time. Thinking of checking out Quartzsite. Thinking of joining the local club, which has some club claims, so I can check out the local conditions and then maybe head out on my own.
Crusty
Looking to head out to AZ for a couple weeks again if anyone has any good leads on a good spot/group out there.

Last year I got a 3-day pass to the Weaver mining claims. Poked around with my GBII for a bit and didn't find anything (could just be operator error). Did find some Epidote crystals. Brought out a couple buckets of classified material out of a creek bed and it had a few bits in it.

Then I went on a day-trip with the Roadrunner Prospector Club. They had a slick recirc power sluice running with a LeTrap sluice. Ran a few buckets and got a few bits; nothing exciting.

Lots of clubs in the state... and lots of gold to be had. Still looking at different clubs to join; some pretty high dollar memberships, but they also have a lot of claims in areas known to produce! Just not sure it's worth the investment to head out that way for a couple weeks a year.
Denise
Sounds like a fun time Crusty! I can understand the interest in clubs for places to prospect but just knowing they sell their memberships for access to their claims is always a red flag to me. That's one of the best things about our club is that we teach members to be able to do research in any state of interest. You can always do a bit of research on the public land near the areas you know are productive and go from there. research.gif happy112.gif

I had hoped to go to az this winter for some nuggets but this surgery took me out. If I'm lucky I'll get some time before I go back to work in March or April to do some digging around here if nothing else..
I'm usually off for the winter for about 4 months so I'm hoping to get out there maybe next winter for a bit. I can dig for a little gold around here but it's so limiting with all the snow and ice.

Maybe next year. I'd definitely like to get the lay of the land out there and spend more time poking around over the winter

I have a bud here in co that's from Prescott and he won't even talk about going back for a digging trip. He has awesome nuggets and vials full but he says there's no water and it sucks. He has all the dry washing equipment but I think he's over it. He's got other things going on in his life now and isn't interested. I should see if he'd sell his dry washing equipment!
He said he went to big bug creek and lynx creek alot.
