So I have finally decided that I will be taking the entire month of april off. Might not have an work anyway so it wont be a big deal. My prospecting buddy (Patrick) and I are headed to Arizona for at least 2 weeks for some detecting maybe drywashing/sluicing. We haven't fully planned our trip yet but will be starting in Stanton they have an outing that weekend. We are hoping to find some decent areas to stay for about a week at a time around there.
After that we were thinking of headed to northwest Arizona/Nevada for another week. Then finishing up the trip in Colorado, most likely SW and then on to the BV/Gunnison area. Patrick has been to AZ once an I have never been, so I was thinking maybe some of you would have some tips for me. Exact locations of gold would be great ![]() Also, I was thinking maybe some of you would want/be willing to join us when we hit Colorado. A local guide for the Colorado areas would be awesome, and I think you would find we are hard working and very enthusiastic diggers. I will be posting more for this trip as we figure it out, and hope to have a final report from the entire thing for you all when we get back. |

Sounds like you two are going to have an really good April!
![]() ![]() Good luck on all your adventure too, everyone will be looking forward to the pictures and stories from the campfire too! ![]() ![]() If you get a chance to, stop at the petrified forest national park, (awesome stuff to learn about and see) and in Gray's rockshop there in Arizona, you'll need to allot some extra browsing time too, they've got a great selection and huge displays. Also, I've recently heard the mineral/mining musuem in Phoenix is about to close, so if you like mineral collections (they have a killer one) you should definately stop in there and take lots of pictures too. The whole musuem is being moved or refurbished and the collection may not be viewable for very long or maybe ever again. Do visit those places if you are close in the travels and get a chance! ![]() Let us know what, when for details on the Colorado leg here in the forums too for sure. Have a safe trip and maybe some folks can get a chance to meet up with you along the way as time approaches this month. CP -------------------- CP-Owner/Administrator

So this past month has almost been a blur. Been putting in a bunch of hours at work and not near enough time researching/planning. We are leaving tomorrow and we just started packing today. I am absolutely sure we are going to forget something big, but as of now we have all the stuff to prospect with so that's all that matters. We also managed to get a small pop-up camper to pull and a 4wheeler that pretty much fills up the back of the truck. So its going to be a tight fit. Super excited but kinda stressed out right now. I can't wait til we are on the road and I can relax.
Our plans in Arizona haven't come together any better than before, we will just wing it while we are down there. Hopefully someone will spill the beans and give us some good pointers. Patrick is all jacked up because hes getting a new detector, a minelab 4500 i think. Maybe i will still beat him with my cheesy one. We should be back near BV the weekend of the 24th, probably stay near the GPAA claims to camp. We are planning on checking out badger creek for at least a day also. Anyone wanting to join us is more than welcome, just look for the green toyota tundra pulling a camper with a 4wheeler. We will be in the area all week. I probably wont have service much of the time but will check the site occasionally to see if anyone is wanting to meet up. Or PM me and i can give you my phone #. Best of luck to those of you getting out prospecting this month and hope to see you in the field. Mike |

Very curious to hear how this great adventure turns out, what sites you managed to hit, and what kind of results you had. Were you mostly gold prospecting, or did oyu do some crystal hunting too? I've caught a few of your posts here and there, sounds like you have some great Colorado experience. I'd be particularly interested to hear sometime more about your experience with Antero - I've been up a couple times myself, but without too much sense of direction as to where to look. I'd love to get ahold of a copy of the Jacobsen book on Antero sometime. I'm itching and overdue to get out and do some digging myself, looks like this Saturday will be the day! |
