A puzzle just for Dan & Denise....
Small mining community. Around early 1900s. In the south half of Lake county. What's the name and history? -------------------- Today's socio-political climate is rock solid proof that Adam and Eve weren't prospectors.
If they were they'd have eaten the snake instead of the apple and we'd still be in heaven.... |

A puzzle just for Dan & Denise.... Small mining community. Around early 1900s. In the south half of Lake county. What's the name and history? I think I know this... Is there another small mining community nearby and did Margaret McGowan W. (I can't say her last name or else google will give it away) live there all of her life? If so, this is a trick question. Here's a few more-
Three of the Derry site, with one zoomed in on Upper Box Creek; One of Mt. Arkansas; And another I got while hiking in some rough country not far from where I live. -------------------- Today's socio-political climate is rock solid proof that Adam and Eve weren't prospectors.

Greetings All...
I knew the answer to this question before I even saw the first pic and those pics of the Derry / Corske / Box site made me a little misty-eyed. About a zillion years ago I had access to this area for fishing purposes for a couple of weeks each summer. At the time I had no interest whatsoever in prospecting so I never inquired as to whether or not I could poke around for the yellow stuff. I do remember that at one time there was a working mine just above the property on the south side and toward the west but have no idea if anything ever came of it. The fish were awfully finicky but if you caught them at the right time (and with the correct nymph) there was some fun to be had! :) Dang I miss the high country in Summer... |

Hi OklaPony, and welcome to the CP forums! Good job on knowing the location!
Colorado sure is an amazing place with many activities including its fantastic fishing areas, guess you will just have to come back for a summer visit. Make yourself at home on the site, and we would all love to see pics and hear about your adventures in fishing and prospecting! -------------------- Education is the key to the future,

Unfortunately I don't have a great deal to add on the prospecting side of things (other than what NOT to do, lol) but I can probably come up with a fish story or minor treasure find from time to time. |
