I was looking through pictures and came across this one. This was at the spring fling outting. It's of my good friends Denise and Goldie. Notice that thier eyes are on the ground. A sure sign of being an avid rockhound.

We had just came from that rock pile Swizz. happy112.gif Those are old tailings from a huge gold dredge in Fairplay.

I would say "a sure sign of being an avid rockhound" If your a man and you look like this while digging. tongue.gif

Or if your a woman and your fingers look like this. blush.gif

unsure.gif Still waiting on if anyone knows what Im holding in the picture above!

Here are a few more picture of true rockhounds (all women) in our prospecting environment . biggrin.gif
This is how I see a true rockhound (prospector) usually. tongue.gif

Most people when first walking up on a dig thats not use to it say "Are they alright?!" blink.gif After seeing the digger laying on the ground with their head in a hole.
bop.gif

Got to love playing in the dirt!!

Good job guys, it is a piece of Goethite! thumbsupsmileyanim.gif Now here a tricky one.......

Why is there a roll of TP next to the digger in the pic above? And no, shes not digging a cat hole. smiley-laughing021.gif

Here's a few pics from our visit to dreamtime. The first one is ol Gat,Dan,and I looking through tailings. The second is Gat down in a hole with Mikey, Dans son looking on.The third is a serious rockhounding toy. The final pic is of a hole that the claim owner had already open. That hole is at least 30 ft. below the ground surface. It is barly big enough to crawl through. OOPS I got my pics mixed up wacko.gif

I know little of rockhounding but I'll take a stab at it..... could it be used as a buffer or soft wedge between the tool and stone [ie: reduce risk of hammer or screwdriver damage] when trying to extract a target?
I think I'm too claustrophobic for rockhounding based on those last pics Jim. smiley-shocked003.gif

Bingo marntson, wrapping up the finds to get them safely out of the digs and woods. thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

Swizz, you are kinda right too but for padding during extraction, it would be more stiff padding (cloth rags or more likely, who evers flanel was closest smiley-laughing021.gif ), just in case a big purty might fall to the floor of the monster cave pocket! smiley-shocked003.gif excited.gif

Suns out and the snow is a meltin'! Good thing too cause this thread is not helpin' the dig fever! emoticon-misc-004.gif
Then there are days when there just isn't enough TP to get the job done! laught16.gif
atomic.gif

Jim's pic recently posted from a sweet day on the digs!
