Plates like these are plentiful in this new pocket area. I call the new spot the Crow Feather Pocket, because I found a Crow feather right where I first dug. A lot of plates are so big they will never make it out of the woods. There are so abundant they start to lose appeal to me. That is what happens after about 100 of them. I am sure there is some nice Fluorite in this pocket. Nearby there was loads of it and some was the best blues I have ever seen. Won’t be long before winter shuts me down but until then I’ll get after it every chance I get. Woody -------------------- Proud CP Lifetime Member

Very nice plates Woody, look forward to seeing some pics after cleaning too. Some neat formations are peeking through that mud.

Very cool plates Woody! I also love them when they are still covered in clay. Amazing difference after cleaning them up though and like Mike said....could be combos in there hiding still. Thanks for sharing pics with us, always love seeing your finds!

Had a nice Thanksgiving weekend and I hope everyone else did likewise. I was looking forward to a long weekend and figured to get up in the hills at least twice. I wasn’t able to break away on the actual Turkey Day but that was just as well. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and is meant to be spent with family and friends just relaxing around the house. So on Friday I was in the parking lot just as the sun was coming up and started the 2 mile, “ish” hike to an area I had on standby for just such a snowy day. It wasn’t actually snowing but the snow was covering the ground by about 2 or 3 inches. Often I will start a dig site and quit the hole before it plays out. Then come back to it later and continue the party even if there is a foot of snow on the ground.
Before long I was finding good material but mostly only one-sided or broken pieces. The material was just good enough to keep me picking away and before I knew it I had spent about 5 hours working a spot with very little show. I went to another spot not far away and got sucked right back in to the same loop. Dig, dig, dig …… Not much….. Dig, dig, dig. 3 or 4 more hours gone. I ended going home on that first day with little more than a whooped butt. Still I’m a glass half full kind of a guy so I figured I got an awesome workout and spent the entire day in the hills. Today I went at it again. Me and a buddy got up early, hit the hills running, and got after it. Very little snow and the ground was thawed so I was free to prospect all I wanted. Dig, dig, dig……. Not much….. Dig, dig, dig. I spent all day digging around and had only a few plates and one piece of Fluorite about the size of your thumbnail. My butt was dragging again and I was ready to call it a day. My buddy appeared a few yards uphill from me and asked if I had found anything. I was in the process of grumbling about how meager this weekends spoils were going to be when, Plop! Right in my hand dropped a nice fat twin. About 3 inches long by 2 inches wide. And I had uncovered a beach ball boulder with crystals visible on the surface. My buddy came down to have a look and together we pulled that boulder out. Just as that boulder came free something dropped from behind it and made a sound just like someone had tossed a silver quarter on a hardwood table. Inside the hole lay a nice shinny, double terminated, 6 inch smokey. Talk about a buzzer beater. The last five minutes of the trip changed my outlook on the entire weekends effort. And that is how I left that hole. I did not even poke around in it. I was able to get the boulder in my pack and started up the hill towards the truck. I’ll post some pictures when I get them all cleaned up. I can’t wait for another snowy day, Woody -------------------- Proud CP Lifetime Member

Been a while, Going to try to post a few pics.
These are a few of the fluorites I found recently. Lots of the ones I have found this week are twinned, almost all of them are Phantom Fluorites. Anything with Phantoms in it are always cool. But in these two pieces you actually get to meet the Phantom, well kind of. They have a face in them. The first is just a smiley face. The second one resembles a Bear face. Enjoy, Woody. -------------------- Proud CP Lifetime Member
