I thought maybe the "Midwest Mining Rally".........

Gat suggested the "Rocky Mountain Mining Rally.......

And Redpaw suggested the "Mountain States Mining Rally.......

I liked them all, but chose "Rocky Mountains Miners Rally" to get started on the Poster/AD...

As soon as the initial layout is complete, I'll send you a web copy.. NOT FOR PRINT... this will only be for web viewing... the print copy will be a much larger file (many Megs) and will not be viewable onscreen for everyone.

Maybe I'm a bit late with this , but I just had to throw in my 2cents worth ! Clear your minds on this first and consider any possible benefits ! Remember the old saying , " If You Can't Beat Them , Join Them " ! What if , we incorporate the word Environmentalists in the name of the rally , or at least in the theme for the rally ? Don't get me wrong here , I really like the names you have all suggested or chosen so far , but I think it would attract a greater percentage of the general public for us to educate at the rally ! You know , plant some seeds and watch them grow ! I believe that enough of the public is undecided as to which side is really correct on all the " ENVIRO " issues that they could easily become members of OUR side ! Attraction is what we need here , so we can educate more of them ! Please excuse me for criticizing , but Rocky Mountain Miners Rally , is only going to attract Us ! We need the strength we can gain from the numbers the general public has to offer ! BUT , we must first get them to attend ! We can write articles till we are blue in the face , and they can read and read and read , but do they have to believe everything they read , Hell no ! Seeing however , is believing ! We must get them to attend !!! Maybe we could this would work -----

welllllllllllllll, i have talked to some gpaa club, and they thought that DEF was a tree hugger group! boy did i straighten him out! in fact i asked him if he would like me to be a quest speaker for their club, so they would know whats up! i guess i embarrassed him! i didnt want to but he needs to know! he is a state director!!!

DBinCo... good points, however, the "environmental friendly education" message is a part of the "Rally Explanations" portion of the posters for General Public and ads for the miners...

The title/logo needs to be catchy and roll off the tongue easy. Actually, a couple of the phrases suggested will be used in verbiage. For instance, one of the phrases included "Rendevous"... I would love to see some of the 1800's Mountain Man Rendevousers make the Rally.

The thrust of the posters, will be to the general public attendance and the Magazine ads will be aimed at the miners. So you see we have to appeal to different markets in different ways.

Thanks to all for your ideas.. rarely in advertising does one person come up with the perfect "slogan" or language... most often the final verbiage is a combination of the various thoughts put forward by the "team" during the brainstorming sessions... well, this is our brainstorming session and everyone on this forum is a member of the design team. So, lets have at it.. all ideas are valid. Some of the very best finals have come from using parts of the most outrageous thoughts.

This is a DEF rally and we will carry on in the fine traditions of the DEF.
I must tell ya though, I'm still learning the DEF concepts myself..... ^_^
What I have learned is the DEF practices exactly what ColoradoProspector.com practices and promotes, EDUCATION AND GOOD WHOLESOME FAMILY FUN! B) ;)

This is our fisrt rally of this size. Last year we held an educational seminar that was just promoted locally and was very successful.
It was promoted on our site and in the little Gilpin County Register paper. We also invited two FS district offices, the Sheriffs dept., County Land Use Specialist, and several other officials. NOT ONE OF THE OFFICIALS TOOK THE TIME TO SHOW TO UP FOR OUR ALL DAY FREE SEMINAR!
All the volunteers showed up including the late Ken Barker (God Bless Him!) who was the Vice President of the Gold Prospectors of the Rockies, and gave panning lessons to the wee ones and even brought up a small display of old mining pics.
We had a great day and there were folks there from everywhere, some that just stopped cause they saw something going on....... :D

Point being the public WANTS to learn about what we are doing and the officials NEED to learn about what we are doing! I'm serious as a heart attack here!
When we filed a notice of intent to run a 3" highbank combo on our claim they literally thought I would be building a long tom in the bottom of the creek and start washing the mountain down.......... <_< I dont think anyone should be eduring the Forest Circus antics and I certainly can't stand by and let my kids or anyone elses inherit such a discombobled system..... :( :(

So we NEED this rally, and we do need to attract as much attention as possible from all groups including, and most importantly, THE OFFICIALS!

Sheesh! I've yammered long enough! :P

In my opinion the DEF has a fine logo, and the North West Miner's Rally also has a nice one.
My thought was a variation of the NW Miner's Rally logo.... but we need your input on this... :)

That is a current list of the companies and or clubs that have contributed so far but there will be lots more and on the flyers, posters, and T-shirts we will be having done up, they will be a continuations of what ever this ends up being......... B) ;)

dan, your rally that you had last year is exactly what DEF is about! education of the people that dont know or that need to be tought! family oreinted! this rally is a hands on event for people that need to know. dredgeing,highbanking panning etc.... everyone that attends this event needs to know that if someone stops and is watching you work, say hi to them ask them if they have any questions about what your doing. ask them if theyd like to try it! above all,be friendly and courtious to everyone!!! you dont know if he will be the very forest service, blm or other guy that you will meet in the creek that will make a determination on weither or not to cite you for something or overlook it and just give you a reminder! or it could be a greenie looking to start a unfriendly situation. remeber to be courtious! then report it to the approprate person incharge of such things!

another thing that would be nice is for everyone to have a camara close at hand. take lots of pictures of people at the rally. pictures of people using your equipment or being shown how its done. people smilling. or incase of trouble take that persons picture for id.. i hope that dont happen be if it does, beprepared! that act has saved more than 1 miner,and not long ago!!!!and send copys of it to dan so that he could use them in next years rally. hows bout that for getting ahead of the game!

Sorry folks that I haven't been around to comment, I've been doing some public relations in Washington. Today I managed to go sit on my claim and have a nice cold one, which I found to be very refreshing and alleviating.

I'm wondering if "Mining" may be confusing and limiting to the un-initiated. What about substituting Prospecting instead?
