My wife and myself just relocated to Grand Junction and a friend had told me I could get everything I needed at Cabela's to include permits and equipment, boy was that a lie. I am wanting to put my hands in the dirt next week but don't have a clue what to do next. I don't want to claim jump but I see there are many claim clubs and I don't even know where to start.

If somebody would please take the time to show me the ropes I will be grateful, buy lunch, and look forward to mining together. I could use all the help I COULD GET.

Whoever told you that just needs to be slapped! You only need permits in certain situations. Equipment can be found in prospecting stores and hardware stores. The first place to start is what are you doing? Rockhounding or gold? What area are you looking to search in?

I found some beautiful rock formations coming down 70 into Grand Junction that I wish to work first, primary target is gold but I am not going to throw stones out either. I actually hit 4 different hardware stores today, three sporting good stores, and not even Cabellas had anything more than a small pan. It looks like I am going to be buying or making my own sluice for sure unless somebody can tell me the name of a store in GJ that sells them?

I am heading to the DNR this morning to try to get more info.

Hello Ben, welcome to the forums! thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

A good topic to start with for your interests is How Do I Avoid Claim Jumping?
There is bunches of info here to help answer your questions and feel free to ask also.

Sportsman's warehouse has a couple of sluices and a few supplies.

I found some decent prices on pans and sluice making equipment online at Rosewind Mining Supply. They also have a wide variety of unusual panning devices. I bought a Turbo Pan and a Hex Pan from them, as well as miners moss and V-mat. My sluice is not completed yet, but I am very happy with the Turbo pan and Hex pan. They are basically the only pans I use now. signs026.gif

Welcome to the forum Ben and Allhorn87, glad to have you both aboard. sign0016.gif
There is also a great shop over in Glenwood Springs called Bear's Archery, Guns & Prospecting, just click on that link for contact, location, hours etc. Tell Ron we said hi and you found his business on the site!
Also for any club members who might visit Ron's shop, you get a club members discount too! thumbsupsmileyanim.gif
