I wanted to come in here and add a few pics for everyone, from the trip we took with Gat on our quest to find Agates...hehe

Our first stop was in Del Norte Colorado. If your this way, dont miss out on visiting there.

The Agate here is amazing!!

Here is a link of some examples of them in the Twin Mountain area....
Colorado Agates with inclusions

Here is a pic of the area with our camp in the distance...... smile.gif

I was standing on an Agate bed when I took this pic...... Looking out SE toward Del Norte.

Dan and myself will be cleaning some of the goodies we got on live cam during the next few days.....hehe
I will let you know when we turn on the cam to see.
Dan will also come in here and give more discriptive directions to the places we visited. All areas were open to the public for digging.

We pulled a few to the front that had Sagenite inclusions and possibly some Dendritic. Would sure be nice if we have some plume also.
Lots of them had great samples of boytroidal (bubble looking) formations, and lots with banding, From almost clear to a deep brown's and other colors at differnt locations around Twin Mountains .

I'll add a pic of these cleaned up later, and you can see more of how they look.
I'll post when we turn on the live cam to watch them being cleaned.

The cam is on for the first batch clean up of the Del Norte agate finds.

These were collected in a bed (large dike) we found on the SE side of Twin Mtns.
From Del Norte you head out hwy 112 toward Centre, just across the river you will find County Rd 15, it's a left turn only. Take that out about 4 miles or so till it makes sharp left turn....right in this 90' left turn is a dirt rd to the right...that is county rd 71 take that to the back side of the private subdivision (about due north) where rd 70 + 71 meet, keep going off that road to the north west along the wash (stay on the southern side of the wash for about a mile or so). This two track rd is unmarked but is a fs rd and takes you NW out to the base of Twin Mtns.
When you are almost at the base of the mountain then cross the creek bed and the agate bed will be another 1/8 mile up hill, you will notice a change of color where the agate bed is...the soil is much lighter than the surrounding area.
From what we have read there are several beds around the Twins and we only got to this one. You could spend a couple weeks here easy and have a really good time exploring.

Hope you all enjoy. happy.gif

We stopped to see the Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona to get our taste buds going...hehe
WOW! What an amazing place it is!
Everything in this pic is petrified wood except the sand and one weed at the bottom left corner.

We left from the Petrified forsest national park's southern entrance/exit......which puts you onto Hwy 180, from there you will turn right to head into Holbrook (closest town).
There are a couple of roads marked on the maps but not named which will take you out to the south toward Woodruff.
The route we took was from Holbrook and head south on Hwy 77 toward Snowflake (watch for Woodruff Rd) Turn left onto Woodruff Rd, go through Woodruff and out onto the open BLM lands, we found several very nice level spots to walk and pretty much just surface collect.
Hint- Keep an eye on the road graded debri to the side of the road....we found some nice stuff there.
If you keep traveling the same direction on that road you will end up back out on Hwy 180 between Holbrook and the Petrified forest park.
We had a great time out there and we hope you all get to visit this spot too.....take lots of water.

PS MrsCP will be posting more pics soon cool.gif
