Hello, I moved to colorado two summers ago. After having some experiance on the east coast and in arkansas, I saw wonderful opportunity to experiance colorado's beautiful scenary while henting for whatever elusive rocks/minerals I could. I currently reside in Minturn, but like to travel all over. Is there some place I can get a comprehensive list of what and where to go and what is considerd private or personal claims. I have a huge intreset in gold panning and any other rockhounding. Also any places that are around Minturn/ Vail would be extremly helpful... Thanx to any one with information.......stonewrapper1

Welcome to the Colorado Prospector forums, we all look forward to your future participation and seeing some of your wrapping work as well. Colorado is an awesome state geologically with over 770 mineral types to find through out the state. For resources on what to find and generally where it was found, many folks like the Colorado gem trail series done by Richard Pearl. There are also many other similar type books published and found at most of the local rock shops. Another good source is past production historys from any given area or mineral/gem of interest. On the private lands and or mining claims being listed.......none of them will have that as it would not only be very difficult to compile initially, but by the time of publication could have changed. So as you'll find in the books, there is a small disclaimer and a freindly reminder of "you must find out if it's private and gain permission if it is" or something to that effect. For a good resource of how to find that information......you've found the perfect website!  You'll find many topics here about land status, the research how to's and why you need to.Make yourself right at home and good luck out there on your prospecting.
