Dinosaur Bone Cabochons, Brilliant colors! Options

We just recently finished these up and thought everyone would enjoy the pics......very brightly colored with many differnt pockets through out the webbing.
Luckily this stuff also takes a really spiffy polish ......with the M-5 of course.

Added to the new pendants section as it ended up wrapped in a sweet little 14k gold filled wire wrap. Just needs your choice of chain and viola!

This grade of Dino bone is very hard to find any where, the colors/patterns are just WOW!!

We are going to be adding this set to the "Stash Compartment". When set, they will make a great pair of earings, a ring and a pendant. When held up to the light, you can see the Agate pockets that replaced the marrow in the bone. Amazing stones!!

I personally like to use tin oxide for dino bones. What is M-5?

I agree, Tin Oxide on leather is the best for polishing. M-5 is a premixed polish we use to sell in the Miners Market.

Dino bone fossils are often found in the Morrison formations geologically speaking if I remember my reading right. There are some great colors out there but finding rough on the ground can be tricky legally. (surface collecting is allowed.... I believe)
I heard of a private ranch that will let you dig for them near the state line in Utah. Many Dino bones and coprolites (dino crap) are found in the four corners areas of both states where the Morrison formation is outcropped often.

The pieces in this thread were all cut from a very old piece out of my grandfathers collection of lapidary rough. Like I said though, there are many many colors out there and some rock shops may have a hidden trove of them if you're in the right areas. I past up a really cool blue one a few years ago at a shop that I'm still kickin' myself in the butt for not gettin' today. and it was only $20 bucks

Thank you sweetheart, I love it! I just have to be careful when/where I'm wearing it. I'm just rough on my hands sometimes and rings get dings! I literally broke my gold wedding band.
I do get nice compliments when I wear it into town though. Nice work Mark, thank you as well.

I'm sure I'll enjoy this one for years and the hand it down in the family, no one else has a duplicate, very unique indeed!

I absolutely love gembone! I've found a really nice specimen north of Canon city. On some areas is almost translucent. It illuminates in a short wave black light. Love the photos, thank you for sharing.

Wow those are some nice pieces of Dino Bone! You can really see the definition in the cells. Fun stuff to polish. I found a chunk at a rock show for cheap and thought why not. Not as crazy cool as your piece.. but still pretty cool. :^)
