Hey guys,
I have a few questions about what to expect at higher elevations in Colorado. I hear it's pretty unpredictable...yes?Say in the middle of July, I'm at 11,000 feet what kind of temps should I expect at nite? Days? What about rain...I've heard that the rain mostly hits from Aug. on, is that true? Also hoping to meet up with someone more experienced than myself for a few days. Anyone available, say the week beginning July 12th? I suppose this time of year the rivers and streams are still pretty swollen? I've always gone to Colorado in Mid-August and camped at about 8,600' elevation...along the Arkansas River, so going a month earlier and up higher may be alot different. At that elevation you can expect the weather to be unpredictable. Very likely to have thunderstorms in the afternoon just pop up out of nowhere. Temps probably in 60's for highs if sun is out. Sun is pretty intense so use sunblock. Air is very thin so hydrate often and take it slow. Digging at that hight can wear you out pretty fast if you are not in top notch shape.

Hey Rich,
Thanks for the reply. I'll be taking alot of drinking water. I'm not in top notch shape so I'm sure I'll be feeling the altitude. I'll be careful. The day before I left last year, for the Arkansas River area, my wife was asking me to leave a map with the location where I'd be camping. I left her a map with 3 spots circled. I told her if I'm not here, then...I'll be here, and if I'm not there,...I'll be here.  I tend to just head out with my stuff...if my plans change or I want to go somewhere else I just do it. I think I got that from the days when I was single, foot loose and fancy free. Not any more...she's always concerned about me when I head out on my excursions and I try my best to re-assure her that I'll be alright. We don't own, or even have a desire for, cell phones. I guess they could come in handy but I just don't care for 'em.
