This was posted on my forum from a friend.

goldfathers on nat geo
by mark pa » Fri May 04, 2012 2:48 pm

Another Alaskan gold show I know one of the miners Doug Baker he has a huge working 20 miles from my place he is the real deal as is his daughter who runs an adjacent mine. When I was there last he has 2 pits both 90 ft to bedrock about 1/2 mile apart and had intentions of connecting them via underground.

5/4 10 pm EST on nat Geo I know they are the green machine but this may have merit not a drama queen like the Hoffmans

He was trucking in 8000 gal of diesel every 2 weeks feeding 2 D-10's and a D 11 I saw a clean up of 440 oz he runs 2 , thats, 2, 200 yd per hour trommels

Leonard he bought Tobe's trommel and jigs along with over 2 miles of 10inch plastic pipe at the dope auction reason he bought the trommel he built it 10 years ago

Should be interesting besides anyone who calls his business "MUDSLINGERS" deserves a look

The trommel and jigs mentioned were in my video at http://golddredgervideo.com/alaska2008/cleanupmusicvideo.wmv

I doin't know what will be in the show but thats a little background.

I thought it was good opening show.
In comparison to the other two shows (Disco channel Bering Sea and AK Gold Rush).... it is refreshingly better.
The narrative is too dramatic for my liking but I can look past that. If it was purely a documentary format (which is what I prefer) it would be better for me but I understand that some "drama" is needed to keep larger demographics coming back. Drama sells much better than Documentary when it comes to a "series" of shows. At least this series keeps the narrative drama to a dull roar.
That being said....
The show doesn't seem to be as scripted or contrived as the others and I appreciate that. These outfits already know how to mine and their mechanics and crews aren't Bear Cub killin, gun-toting lazy drug addicts with anger management issues, endless personality conflicts, etc. The big guy with the hot daughters definitely has his hands full, especially with the Barbie Doll, LOL.
Overall this could be a good series judging by the premier. I'll be tuning in for sure.
Anyone else catch it?

I enjoyed it for the most part. They could turn down the drama about a dozen notches.

Things I wondered about:

Why sample with the rocker box? Why not a highbanker? It gave the kids something to do for the day though. They didn't appear to be very experienced panners. They were working with almost pure black sand though.
I noticed the "no grease" on the washplant axle as soon as they pulled the wheel. Not only no grease, all rusted up.

I'm looking forward to more episodes. A huge difference from the Hoffmans.

I totally agree. They have an ample water source and would have been much more efficient with a banker or small trommel for sample processing. They don't seem too serious but the guy is spending a lot of money. He also has a mining crew actually working but the 'camera crew' is fixated on the hot daughters with tight wet clothing playing in the dirt, imagine that. haha Dad's mining protocol is worthy: Research, Prospect (sample), then Mine... in that order. I appreciate that the series shared this fact.
When they were finally panning their cons, I didn't see any Gold.... just Barbie's cleavage. blush.gif

The big operation at Tofty is about 20 miles from where all of my alaska videos, excapt Nome, was shot. I never made it to tofty though when I was there.

Sounds like I missed the start. I will have to see if there is a re-run somewhere. I would like to follow this and will set the DVR if I get the chance. Thanks!

Monday night

10:00 PM to 11:00 PM EST
Goldfathers: Race for GoldIts a modern-day gold rush. The new series follows three gold-mining operations as they battle nature, machines and each other in a brutal race against time to get as much gold from the ground as possible before the icy cold of winter returns to shut them down.
