Colorado has many ares that were put on the map due to gold mining.
Cripple Creek is a good example of this. Take a look at this website that gives you a look inside Cripple Creeks History.

I remember when I lived out there in the early 70's I would go to Cripple Creek all the time. Mostly the town was deserted. There were miner shacks all over the hills, with tailing piles everywhere. Back then you could really grab the sense of nostalgia from the land. Today it is all casinos and apartment houses. The old buildings have all long since disappeared or removed. And, the tailing piles have been leveled out. The Cripple Creak/Victor Mining Company's tailing pile covers up just about everything else.
I understand the need for progress, in fact I'm usually the one pushing it the hardest..... But, I miss the old Cripple Creak. I miss being able to come around that corner on the Hiway and step 100 years into the past

cool site, thanks, heck i remember when i was a youngin prospecting there....lol...ok im not that old, but it would of been cool to be there durring the days
