I am a complete newbee to this just looking to go out and have some family fun and maybe find some gold up here in northwest Co. Craig. So as things start to melt more I imagine I will have more questions for the seasoned ones.

I work in that area sometimes but I've never dipped a pan around there.

First time ever to try this as a new member. I will be out in the Fairplay/Silverthorne area next Thursday-Saturday and am looking for help on a place to pan. All i have will be a small shovel and some pans we bought when we were out here about 8 years ago. Any suggestions for cheap equipment or just a quite place for me and family to try our luck would be great. Thanks

Fairplay has a public placer digging area I've heard about. I think you go to the blm office there to get set up.

Here is the link to the Free Panning Areas Topic

One or more of those spots may help you out. I have not been to the Fairplay spot but I hear it is a fun spot to take the family.
