Hey all,

I've located some nice placer deposits in Colorado and some local I've been tracing have been coming up with increasing amounts of red medium grains. These grains increase in numbers along with gold. I've got a couple larger grains of these but unfortunalty they are lost in my truck. I originally thought they are some kind of garnet pulverized but would I expect to see that in such concentrations mixed within the black sands?
I attempted to attach a couple pics, maybe someone on here can help me out.

Thanks
MikeS

Looks like garnets for sure. Many Colorado gold locations have garnets with the gold and black sand which can be used as indicators of where the heavy stuff is. happy112.gif Garnets are the most likely gemstone to find with your gold concentrates in CO. I have found several colors too. Yellow, orange, red, pink and purple have all showed up in my pans. Other gemstones can show up with concentrates too.

Thanks for the quick response, looking forward to further working this spot to perhaps find some larger garnets and of course some coarser gold.

Keep testing and i am certain you will.

Keep an eye out here on the forums for meet ups with other CP'ers. I may go to Clear Creek here in Denver this weekend to test my gold wheel set up. If I do I will throw out a invite by Thursday at the latest. Stay tuned!
