I thought yesterday was a day like any other day, until I heard a knock
on the door. The knock just happend to be our mail carrier. She brought a
great big box sent to us from Colorado. In the box was a beautiful chest
wrapped in a blue and white baby afgan. On top of the chest was an
envelope that had a note and a golden key inside. I imediately called Doug
to tell him what had come in the mail. I asked him if I could open it and
tell him what was in it. He said no, and to wait til he got home. So here
I sit with a golden key that belongs to a chest filled with who knows what,
sitting on my kitchen table and I can't open it for another 7 hours.
Doug got home about 8:30. I put the key in, gave it a turn and opened
the lid. The chest was filled with all of these wonderful things from our
internet friends. Pennies with hearts painted on them for wishes that had
been made, blankets to keep Mason warm, and treasures from our littlest
friends. We were amazed at all of the things that were in Masons treasure
chest. We truely have a world full of thoughtful and caring friends. We
just want to say Thank You so very much for all of your thoughts and prayers
that everyone has extended to us for the past eight months. God has been
listening to everyone.
Mason had his most recent surgery on September 10th. The birthmark
that had been growing in his trachea was no longer visible to the doctors.
Can you imaging how overjoyed we were when she told us the news. At that
time he still had a little bit of constriction in his trachea, which we are
hoping that was just due to swelling, and lack of use. We got to bring him
home that same day and about a week later we started to hear his voice
again, and he hasn't stopped since. We don't have to go back until December
10th. We are hoping a this time the trach will come out and we will have a
whole little baby again. So please keep those prayers up, because they are
working.
September had been quite a busy month for Mason. Aside from his
surgery, Mason now has seven teeth. Four on the top and three on the
bottom, be careful when sticking you finger in his mouth to check if there
are any more, you may not come back with all of it. LOL His personality is
showing up more and more everyday. He certainly will be an adventerous one.
A daredevil if you will. Hanging upside down off daddy's shoulder is just
a little tease to him. Mason is also learning how to crawl and pull himself
up. He already knows how to roll all around the floor, so we have to keep a
close eye on him. One second he is right in front of you, the next he is
about 10 feet away.
Mason took a long trip out west in late September. Jarita's cousin was
getting married in Montana so Mason, Mommy, Grandma Carol and Aunt Jo went
on a long car ride. Due to a sale that the dealership was having, Doug was
unable to go. We went through Nebraska, South Dakota Wyoming and into
Montana. We stopped at The Badlands National Park, Mount Rushmore, and
Sturgis on the way out. Mason had such a wonderful time. Jarita's aunt,
uncle and cousins got to meet Mason for the first time. Mason danced the
night away at the wedding reception, outlasting most of the adults in
attenance. The fall colors were in their peak and the scenery was just
beautiful. We can't wait to visit again one day. Next time Daddy is
coming with us.

Thank You all again for everything you have done for our family. We will
never forget how many wonderful friends we have.

Love, Doug, Jarita and Mason Heidebrink

There is enough of those pennies for Mason to give one to every girlfriend the little heartbreaker will ever have left in the chest. laugh.gif Jarita and I are still just amazed by what you all did.

We need everyone to keep him in their prayers for awhile yet. Dec. 10th will be the next big hurdle. If all goes well the trach will come out, if not he is in for a major reconstructive surgery and may end up spending his first Christmas in the hospital. I am very confident it will go very well. There is so many people praying for him I just don't see how it can't all work out in Mason's favor.

God Bless all of you,
Doug-Iowa
