I tried to do a search here but my keywords were too short.
Anyone know the status of the areas above and below point bar? I found a PDF from 2011 with the woody claims upstream and the Colorado Prospector claims down. I'm wondering if any areas are open between. I remember reading that some claims were mistakenly approved somewhere around there but I wasn't sure.
My wife and I were in that area Sunday but I'm not sure where we were. We got to a place where the road goes under a concrete train bridge but the road to the left looked a little washed out so we just walked around and looked. I think point bar was on down further according to my map but I'm not familiar with that area.
Anyone been there?

I brought home about 4 buckets of classified material and it cleaned up nicely. Here's some finish pics. Nice and chunky stuff.

I spent today on the river in my rain gear with a newbie. It was like blizzard conditions minus the wind. The temps weren't bad at low 40's for a short time. Good temps to dig anyway and the tools werent icing over so that was nice. I should have brought a thermos of cocoa.
I panned 4 or 5 buckets worth of 1/8th classified material down to about 2 inches worth of pay dirt in one bucket. I started processing the cons at home tonight but my wife shut me down. Said she's not having the mess and I have all day tomorrow and something else, I wasn't listening. Tomorrow i have some crap to do around here so the gold will have to wait until later in the day.
The newb did real good. I spent time with him panning and sampling different places where he could dig his own hole. He was frantic at the mica washing out of his pan at first but I kept reassuring him it wasn't gold ha-ha. He had a real good time and has a bucket full of 1/4 inch and smaller to keep him busy at home. It all needs panned but i tapped out some gold for him and he was stoked. He felt the itch when he found his first speck!
I'll post up pics when I get some of these cons processed. The amount of black sands in the Arkansas is astonishing. The gold I've found is very similar to clear creek.
Awesome day to dig for gold, sketchy day to drive over monarch!

Good on ya for getting out there in the crappy conditions! Always entertaining to see someone learning and remember how it was to be that excited.
