Could be Gold. Quartz is approximately fist sized. Pinpointer likes it... not sure if Pyrite would do that. Further testing warranted.

If you don't care about the matrix do an acid test. Otherwise, I know that you know the other tests.

Scrape and scratch tests reveal Pyrite or Mica. Mystery solved, not Gold. Sure did look good though.

bummer. Still a cool looking piece... you can just pretend ;)

Chris, pyrite can have gold in it - and that's common here in CO - depending on the amount, get it tested.

I scraped most of it off the Quartz and panned.... no gold traveling with this Pyrite.
