Ok here is a desription,In the bottom of the pan a bolt gose throught the bottom of the pan and held there by a flat nut ,then there is the foam rubber 1/16 thick, then there is the 1/4 punch plate and a wing nut to hold it all down.Yesterday dec 16th
I gave it a little test ,(now dont tell my wife cause i did it in the bath tub again )Any ways i panned out a couple scoops full of black sands, The pan works very well with the fine gold that was left in the black sand from the first cleanning. It seemed to me to hold the gold in the punch plate holes as I was panning i could see that it was increasingly harder to get the gold to the edge of the pan it seamed to want to stay in the punch plate holes. After panning it down I removed the punch plate and washed out the foam rubber in the pan and did the final panning and low and behold there be gold in the pan grin I got my hand held micro scope and looked closely at the gold and found a abundence of very fine micro gold in the pan.
My conclusion is the pan works very well and seems to pick up finer gold then a coventional pan although harder to do the final clean because you have to remove parts it does catch more gold.

I don't recognize that style of pan from anywhere I've been, and I don't think I know anyone who's ever used one of that type.
Maybe there is a new market for it?, I also wonder if the Blue Bowls that work with a pump would function better if they had a bottom trap set up like your pan.

That's a real nice find you made, let us know this summer how good it works in the field.

Hey Gat, That pan looks just like one pictured in E.S. LeGaye's book Gold...ABC's Of Panning. It's a good little book written in 1970. He describes the pan shown on page 32 as one specially fitted for saving flour gold. Good find! QJ ;)
