Are you talking about the 4-part mini series titled "Gold Fever".
It actually looks like it's gonna be pretty good:
Gold Fever Mini SeriesAppears to focus on the hardships of the 49ers and how America was built on the 1849 rush... like a documentary/reenactment.
I'll watch it for sure.

I just watched a new gold show. It's called alaska Gold Diggers.
http://animal.discovery.com/tv-shows/alaska-gold-diggersTonight was episode 1 on Animal Planet.
I don't say it's great but as far as I'm concerened it's a lot better than the Hoffman's. The drama seems to stay fairly low key.

I watched the first episode (2hrs) of the Gold Fever mini-series last night and really enjoyed it from an historical standpoint. Excellent narration by Mike Rowe and well written. I did not know about the horrors of the Cholera outbreak. Anxious for part 2! Interesting watching the success of 'miners mining miners' too... they invented it. That unscrupulous practice is still thriving today.
So far I find it to be non-biased and very educational.
