Full Version: Double astroid fly by today

Two new small space rocks recently discovered will be zipping by Earth today and one is coming very close but no worries everyone, it's not going to impact Earth, but it is only 0.2 lunar distance away. The closer astroid is only 9 meters and the other is 16 meters size but they will look like a 15th or 16th magnitude star.....really fast moving ones!

Here's what might be expected, on average, for a rock asteroid impacting Earth:

9 meters size would have a strike energy of 39KT, would explode in the air, on average happens every 8 years.
16 meters would would have a strike energy of 221 KT, would explode in the air, on average happens every 26 years.
1 mile size would have a strike energy of 224,697 MT, would create a peak-ring crater 38.47 km across and 1.40 km deep, on average happens every 258,566 years.
2 mile size would have a strike energy of 1,797,573 MT, would create a peak-ring crater 72.81 km across and 1.70 km deep, on average happens every 1,034,266 years.
3 mile size would have a strike energy of 6,066,809 MT, would create a peak-ring crater 105.74 km across and 1.90 km deep, on average happens every 2,327,098 years.

The bigger they are, the harder they fall!
