Viewing the ISS (International Space Station) is something you can see year-round (almost daily), is great for the kids, and you don't have to get up at 3am to watch. Although, it's not as spectacular as comets or meteor showers, it's cool to see man made stuff floating around in the sky . The best thing is that it's getting bigger all the time (they will be adding the Progress module soon).
