Sadly enough Jon, it is and has been happening in Colorado as well. Wild and scenic river designations to add these rivers into wilderness areas. Another one of the continual attempts to take the miners right of possesion (ownership) away under the guise of environmental preservation, or recreational uses. Fortunately the wilderness areas do not prohibit location claims or prospecting within them according to law (16USC1133)....even though it might not sound that way in reports such as linked here, where the wilderness designation is being mis identified as prohibiting mining.
Mining claim ownership is a right, recreation is not, lets hope the miners have the proper ammo and get their claims moving on the work end.
