Hello Everyone!

We would like to thank the Saluda Trail Middle School's 8th grade science students and their teacher Mr. Davis from Rock Hill SC.
Today the CP website (webcam & chat room) were used as part of their in classroom ciriculum for earth sciences. Education! YAAAAHOOOO! happy.gif
Mrs CP and myself demonstrated some basic lapidary techniques on the webcam while the classroom had 6 stations set up for live chat interactivity.
The results were absolutely amazing! biggrin.gif
Everyone had a great time and the results of todays lessons (the finished cabs) are to be wire wrapped in silver and sent to winners in each class!

Two thumbs up too all the students and their very cool teacher Mr. Davis! cool.gif
We hope to have future science labs with you all again! What a great day! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

I wish I could have hung in there longer, but being at work with a finicky firewall prevented it.

Dan & Denise - this is awesome! Hopefully when my grand kids are a bit older their school has the foresite to make these kinds of activities available to them. But if it doesn't I'll take advantage of you anyway!

Nice to meet everyone!
Denise
fanatic.......... We would love that! You are always welcome to join in chat
and view the webcam when we are working stones. With it being winter and hard to get out to dig, working stones has been a fun way to pass time.
Check the webcam often. biggrin.gif
Denise
We spent the morning with 2 new classes who were very interested in what was going on with the webcam, and had plenty of questions for CP in the chat. biggrin.gif
It was a blast!
smile.gif

Here is a picture of some of the finished cabochons we made today on cam.
The big one to the right even looks a little like the Grand Canyon. wink.gif

Thanks to Mr.Moton and Miss.Epps for allowing their student to participate, and Mr.Davis for helping them set it up. Take care and have a great weekend.

AKA Tim Davis 8th Grade Science Teacher!!!!!
CP
You are very welcome Tim and thank you all. We had a great time working with the classes in the science labs. biggrin.gif

This has been and will continue to be a very unique teaching resource. We are looking forward to working with many more class groups in the future.

Quinten Good is also enthused about the educational possibilites opening up here and saw fit to re-donate the two specimen lots left from the previous years specimen auction in September to this resource.

We will be sending one piece to each of the 3 class teachers for their in class teaching purposes. Future classes we work with will also get one of these fine specimens as well. When these are gone, we have already been told there will be more as needed.
Thank you Quinten, (owner Dreamtime Mine), for the donations. cool.gif

Special thanks to Mr.Davis for helping out on the eastern end to get computers set up and so on. happy.gif YOU DA' MAN! cool.gif biggrin.gif

We are glad to be working with the STMS 8th grade classes again this year for interactive online lab classes.
This year again Mr. Davis has coordinated things for the schools end and they have even more computers to use this year per group.

The cabochon necklaces this year are made from our personal dino bone stash and are a very gemmy grade and color. All cabochons cut, cabbed and wrapped in sterling silver by us here at the CP lapidary shop. biggrin.gif
3 classes will each get one and the 4th is for Mr. Davis......Thank you Mr. Davis. cool.gif

Dinosaur bone being a fossil, these pieces will hopefully fit in the classes current studies well, and possibly light a spark or two in some young minds about our planet and it's geology that lasts. wink.gif
jim
Hey........can I get into that class? Why should the kiddies have all the fun? The three R's is all I had when I was a kid. It just ain't fair. Now theres four R's.........reading,writing,rithmatic, and rocks.

This years groups were awesome to work with!
They ask fantastic question, and seem to show more interest for rocks
by the time they leave. It was great working with them online. happy.gif

Were looking forward to the next time.
