The LR2000 system is back online finally.
Looks way different and I have not gotten to fiddle with it yet but looks like you can once again search the mining claim data base........better hours too. :D

For any of you that have used LR2000 in the past, the BLM has jumped lightyears ahead. They now use a web-based GIS system that is available to the public. You can call it up at:
http://www.geocommunicator.gov/NILS-PARCEL/
1. Once the page loads, look at the upper right and change "Oil & Gas" to "Mining Claims".
2. Use the mouse to draw a box around the area you would like to examine. Focus in as small or large as you like.
3. What you should be looking at is a map of all active mining claims. Those whose hatch lines run "upper-right to lower-left" are placer claims. Lode and Mill claims look different.
4. Now select "Identify" from the top menu and click on one of the sections with claims (if you are running a pop-up blocker on your PC, hold down the CTRL button while clicking). Up will pop a list of active and closed mining claims for that section. If the LR2000 site is not down (at night), you can view the individual Serial Registers for each claim.
The background map is BLM land use data. Green=National Forest, Brown=BLM, White=Private. Use with caution, but great for initial research.
This software revolutionizes mining claim research. While there are still all the problems that might come from LR2000 (local offices not keeping it current), it is the best thing I have ever seen. This should put a person in pretty good shape to head to the court house and expand their research.

Thanks to RD Round for bringing this new site to my attention.
But- how accurate is it? It doesn't show the GPAA claims up by Granite nor does it show Leonard's claims in the right place (Leonard, according to the LR2000 you have the claim rights to the pumping station that's about High Hopes. Happy digging!).
