I hiked the trail yesterday and it was whitewater throughout the canyon. Low banks are swamped. I had the same thought as you hoping the water is replenishing those holes.

For those that are history buffs, too, also.

The attached PDF is a December 27, 1900 article in The Mining Reporter (Vol. 42, No. 26) entitled, "A Busy Valley". There are two photos, one is "The Gorge of Clear Creek, Colo., Through the Front Range" and the other is "Black Hawk, Colorado, Looking up Gregory Gulch".

Cool article Gene; thanks for sharing!

Did a little prospecting for a new winter location. The new Big Easy Trailhead looks promising! Plenty of sun, paved trail right to the creek (makes hauling gear to the creek a breeze!), a bathroom, lots of cobble to work, and I got decent gold from 6 buckets.

A quick video of the spot I made: https://www.facebook.com/bobbittm/videos/10...771122016993958

Here's the spot I tested

First test bucket

Second bucket; hit a nice chunky layer!

Buckets 3-6. Got out of the chunky layer and in to the CCC fines!

With the new trail bringing more folks Creekside, we've really got to be cognizant of our digging activities and ensure we're filling in our holes! There are a few sections of the Canyon that look like war zones, with tailings piles and 6' deep holes everywhere. Sure way for Jefferson County to consider excluding prospecting from the allowed activities in the park! So let's all PLEASE do our part to be positive representatives of the club and prospectors as a whole!

WIll be back there MOnday with the 2.5" dredge to do some more sampling.

Swizz and I hit The Big Easy Trailhead this week, and I went with a couple other folks on Monday. Water is very low and getting chilly!

On Monday I drug my 2.5" dredge with a 3 sluice long tom. All it did was remind me of why I hate dragging that in for a day trip. lol
