I saw a few threads on Chucks Gold Trapper and they were pretty favorable. I was traveling in Wyoming on business this past week and on the way back I called Chuck and stopped in to buy one. Very nice to meet the gentleman and I did purchase one of the units. A question I have is about rocks getting trapped/stuck in the flap. A friend has a Gold Trapper and said he noticed rocks getting stuck in the flapper from time to time. The flapper diameter is 2" and the extension tube is 1 1/2". Has anyone tried putting a smaller screen over the end of the larger tube or the extension, maybe 1/2" or 1/4"? I thought that may help to classify a bit to keep larger rocks from getting through. Also, if classified down to the smaller size it would be better to run it directly through the sluice from the Trapper.

i also have a CGT and id reccomend NOT putting any type of classification/screen in it! that would cause it to miss the bigger gold.and slow down your prospecting!

russau - That was my first thought too, except that where we generally go, the gold is flour and very small flakes. The largest couple of pieces I found would pass through a #10 mesh, but not a #30. Of course, it would be my luck to put on a 1/2" screen and then not allow a 3/4" nugget to pass through - dare to dream!

I bought a cheap POS imitation of CGT and that was a waste of money. Next time I'm gonna get the official CGT. I borrowed one once before and they are great!

Yup - I've heard good things about them. Unfortunately I picked up one heck of a cold bug in Wyo which laid me out for the weekend. Hoping the weather cooperates this weekend so I can get out and give it a good try.

BTW, Coalbunny - How's that GB2 working out for you? Have you had a chance to run it through its' paces? Any good results to report?

It ain't. I think I'm gonna have to send it off to Fisher and get it checked. Before hand I'm gonna run some tests. So far it's been bad.

Hey Russ, the gold I thought was stolen at the motel? I found I stashed it somewhere hidden! No wonder I couldn't find it!

Sorry to hear that - I knew you were pretty happy to acquire it some time ago. I'm still looking for a metal detector, primarily for nuggets, so was hoping to hear some good reports on your GB2. Hope they can repair it for not alot of $$ -
