Reno, NV. - The U.S. Bureau of Land Management on Monday (6/29/09) announced the one-time "location" fee has been increased from $30 to $34 for all new claims staked hereafter.
Additionally, the annual maintenance fee for unpatented claims, mill and tunnel sites where no federal land has been transferred is now $140, up from $125.

BLM says people who have already submitted maintenance fees for the 2010 maintenance year will be sent a notice and given time to pay the additional amount.

Read more on the article from The Mineweb website.

We thought claim owners would like to know as soon as possible.

Dear CP:

Thanks for getting this information out so quickly. The law was changed by publication in the Federal Register Vol. 74, No. 123 on Monday June 29 of 2009. That is not much advance notice, in my opinion.

Fees for filing a new claim now total $189. For those claims located prior to September 1, but filed with BLM after September 1, payment must include location year and current year maintenance fees for a total of $329.00 per claim at the time of filing.
