Hi folks, just an idea I was thinking about, what if the club came up with some templates that could easily be printed off or if the club produced some; but anyways little 2x2 cards or business cards that we could include in little plastic baggies with small mineral or ore samples; the cards saying what it is & a little info about it, with Colorado Prospector Club info on the reverse so they can get involved. I always see kiddos carrying big handfuls of rocks that "looked shiny" or "had shiny stuff in em" etc. I'm sure we all have piles of small specimens (crystals, ores, minerals, fossils) that aren't worth much, and aren't the best quality, but might just be the ticket for a young curious prospector to catch the bug. So yea just an idea, I'm probably going to do something like that in the future; just carry a few small samples in plastic bags with a card with info about the sample to hand out to little rockhounds I see on the trail with their families.

Great idea. Always fun to see a youngster's eyes light up when you hand them something cool and talk with them about it.

We do have templates for cards for the club. I printed several off on regular printer paper and keep a stack in my wallet to hand out to people who I meet that may be interested. I also like to make small sample bags of minerals when I know a young one is coming to a club event. thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

I havent seen anyone in the woods when I'm prospecting yet but I'm sure a kid would get a kick outta that idea.
It's when the candy comes out that the parents might get worried! slaphead.gif

A lot of times when trekking to spots on foot I use FS trails to get out to the area, then off trail usually to my sites a ways, but none the less I run into kiddos on hikes with their families, every now spotting a kid with armfulls of rocks (and sometimes the parents with armfulls of rocks as the kiddos find more lol) and yea I think I'm going to put some small baggies of small smokies with some info about quartz and a link to the club, to keep in a side pouch in my pack. (Wish we did prospecting/geology stuff when I was in Scouts). Does the club offer a "Junior" Membership like for prospectors under 14/16 years old?

The reason I started getting into rock hounding was because my kids love Minecraft so it was away to get them outside. They love it now we just need to figure out what we are doing and where to go.
