I made this little stand to display my Campo slice.
Made from: Fiddleback Maple (scrap from knifemaking) Piece of driftwood from Lake Granby Rare Earth magnet (recessed about 1/16" into the driftwood as not to scratch the specimen) 1/8" dia Brass pin to connect the two woods Tools: bench sander and drill Level of difficulty: Easy! 20141124_160512 by ghostcreekmine, on Flickr 20141124_160443 by ghostcreekmine, on Flickr 20141124_160800 by ghostcreekmine, on Flickr 20141124_161201 by ghostcreekmine, on Flickr -------------------- /l ,[____], l---L-OlllllllO- ()_) ()_)--o-)_) BLACK SANDS MATTER! That Looks awesome Chris,
I like the unique-ness of that holder. In the years to come it will be interesting for you to see how many people also ponder over the stand as well as the specimen. I have around 20 or so of those rare earth magnets I use for my test station and I keep breaking them. They are so powerful and brittle they break easy. Thanks for sharing your project, it looks good. Woody -------------------- Proud CP Lifetime Member

That turned out fantastic Swizz!! Displays the meteorite slab perfectly and the magnet will work great for it.

This is very cool; I'd like to get a nice meteorite specimen someday.

That slice wasn't very expensive.... maybe $30-$35. It's only 2" X 1.5" and about 1/8" thick. I think Campo specimens are fairly obtainable and they have a distinctive etch pattern that I like. I'd like to get an end-cut with dimpling but they're kinda pricey depending on size and documentation. Sometimes deals can be had at the rock shows down in Denver but I always blow my wad on fossils when I go to those things. -------------------- /l ,[____], l---L-OlllllllO- ()_) ()_)--o-)_) BLACK SANDS MATTER!
