these little spring shrooms are the best eating you ever had, they pop up around late may and only show for a few weeks depending on the weather, the wetter the better, i used to pick them as a kid in michigan, and have found them in wyoming as well, its a big part of our spring, outdoor events.

Crappie fishing and morel shrooms were the best part of ice out in Nebraska! When the violets were in bloom the morel was out ! I had found them as early as Feb! You had to get to them before the deer hit them!
OUTSTANDING!
skunkape
the earliest i ever found them was in mid april, and that was in a warmer year!
Hi Wyo, You getting any morels yet.
I'm curious. If you don't like morel mushrooms, isn't that considered "immorel"?
yes we sure did, the wife and i picked some last week...yummmmmm
immorel...grrr
Yum,Yum.
Hmmmmm are any going to survive long enought to make it to the outting? Joe
if i get alot of morels before the trip, i will bring some along, if not....oh well i had mine go find yours
wouldnt suprise me if they were around alma, i might have to peek around some
went looking for some morels to bring to the outing, it got too dry to fast, looks like the season is over till next spring, sorry
So I don't get it...are these things really that good? I'm not a huge shroom fan, best I can tolerate is shrooms and black olives on a nice slice of neopolitan from Penn Station NYC (Don Pepi's, you're my hero!) . So whats the big deal?
they dont taste anything like the ones you get from the store, hard to explain the morels flavor, but since im not bringing any, i dont have too
its just something you need to try and taste for yourself, they are indeed delish
you can get dehydrated ones from stores, but they dont do the morel any justice, fresh is the best.....maybe next year i will bring ya up some
