There are several wildfires right now in Colorado. The smoke has been so bad that for the last 3 nights, the sun has been red before sunset.
Here is an article from the Durango Herald where you can read more details...... Western Colorado Fires Grow -------------------- Education is the key to the future,

Sad to say, but there are alot more reported fires around Colorado now. Here is a picture I took a few days ago reflecting all the smoke in Colorado right now. This picture was taken around 6 pm a few days ago.
Hopefully they will be able to get some of these fires under control soon. Temps have been very hot and dry!! -------------------- Education is the key to the future,

Really bad.
No fires up her so far but conditions are extreme and I fear it may be only a matter of time if the daily weather pattern doesn't change soon. We had a 10 minute rain today and it was VERY nice, everyone was smiling. It hasn't rained here in weeks. The new fire near Boulder (Flagstaff Fire) is relatively close but moving in the other direction... but it's really close to Eldorado Springs now, where I lived for years. I would hate to see that town burn. -------------------- /l ,[____], l---L-OlllllllO- ()_) ()_)--o-)_) BLACK SANDS MATTER! Very Happy CP Lifetime Member CP CORE TEAM Referral Code CE213 |

Flagstaff fire seems to be under control now and didn't get too bad thankfully.
Waldo fire however was really bad last night. Watching the news... that's the worst fire I've ever seen, by far. A lot of homes on fire. My thoughts go out to those families and definitely the firefighters who are giving it their all. Hope that Woody, Pat, and others that way are ok and doing well! -------------------- /l ,[____], l---L-OlllllllO- ()_) ()_)--o-)_) BLACK SANDS MATTER! It's been an extremely crazy couple of days to say the least. Last night was the longest and worst so far. I ended up taking in a small family from Fort Carson that was living in the evac zone. They had only minutes to throw their most valued possessions into their small car and leave the rest behind.
Image being a family forced to leave your home. You have a one year old child, your wife is 8 months pregnant, and you can visually see the fire coming down the mountain coming in your direction. Your priorities of life would instantly change. The next few days will be a trying time for many. Most will not even come close to losing their homes, "I believe", but the waiting and uncertainty will be extremely stressful. The accommodations are probably not what they are used to but they are grateful to be safe. On my part I did nothing that any other respectable american wouldn't do. Just glade to be in a position to help. Don't wait till times of trouble to count your blessings, Woody. -------------------- Proud CP Lifetime Member

Our thoughts also go out to all the families and fire fighters involved. They say they had to evacuate over 32,000 people from their homes near Colorado Springs and the fire was right at the edge of the U.S. Air Force Academy.
That is really awesome of you and your family Woody!! I'm sure that the family is very thankful and will keep you in their hearts forever for your kind efforts. Really windy here today in the valley...I hope that it's not the same there! -------------------- Education is the key to the future,

Thought I would share this as it could be of some help. A friend of mine is the daughter of a Colorado fire fighter and she shared this up on Facebook. http://www.wildfiretees.com/products Lauren and I can't help right now in a physical sort of way like woody here but we did buy a few shirts to at least put a little money towards theses fires. The webpage looks and sounds legit and we found the same link in the paper so check it out for yourself and if this seems like the right way for you ttp help out then I urge you to do so.

It's positively heartbreaking to see the reports on TV about these awful fires. In spite of a little injury to my foot I'm going to bring the family to CO for about a week in early August and I'm scared to think what it will be like if y'all don't get some serious rainfall in the near future.
Here's hoping that everybody stays safe. |

I shot this pic out my office window as the wall of fire raced down into Colorado Springs Tuesday afternoon. The flames appeared to reach 300+ feet in length at times.

That is a terrifying photo, especially knowing how fast a fire can move through the mountains. Alot of people have been devastated by the fires and hopefully they will be able to pick up the pieces and continue on. My heart goes out to them! It is a very difficult thing to move on without a home but the human spirit can be a very strong thing when needed I know.
Thanks for the link amorton! CP still wears his shirt from the Hayman fires here in Colorado. Every bit helps support the people affected by the fires. -------------------- Education is the key to the future,

the Wyoming fires look bad also! they forced our evacuation on July 3 from the medicine Bow mnts at Douglas Creek we had people from N.California and Michigan as well as other places forced to leave. atleast i got to dredge leonards claim again for 2 days before we had to throw it all in the trailer and git!this trip cost me $1600. for fuel and replace trailer tires that blew due to the high temps in Kansas.

I got a buddy whos wife works for the fire department here in the Springs. He sent me a link to an inside look at what some of these fire fighters go through. "Sorry about having to sit through the advertisement, it is on YouTube". This is bits and pices from a training vedio that was shot during the Waldo Canyon fire. This entire vedio covered just one night. This guy was not able to go deep into the fire zone, he was only allowed to go up and down the containment line.

Fire fighter go above and beyond to help all of us! There is always a place in my heart for them as they are true heroes. It's looking like they are finally able to get a handle on some of these fires here in Colorado.
Russ, I am so sorry to hear about the fires in Wyoming . Sounded like it was one heck of a trip but at least your home safely now. -------------------- Education is the key to the future,
