We all do what we can to protect our rights and bring awareness to mining.
This is what Im going to be doing in 2008.....
Rockin' For Mining!
Im going to be bringing awareness to musicians and their listeners about how important mining is in ALL our lives!
I will also be giving out handmade stone guitar picks I made from material I have mined. This should be fun and productive all in one.
What do you think?
Mrs CP, I'll tell you what I think. It is a typically magnificent gesture on your part!
A great idea that represents a lot of hard work and the free distribution of some very valuable items.
I commend you and your idea!
faaus
TY Faaus. We hope it helps to raise more awareness to mining.
ROCK ON!! Awesome idea Denise!
CP
Prize (stone guitar pick) for an upcoming contest in the CP website.
Will you be the one to win it?
Here is a picture to show how translucent it is in the light.
This stone guitar pick is on fire!
i agree with faaus thats a great idea! we need young blood in the small scale mining community to keep it alive and growing! SALUTE!
Thanks denise for pointing out the pick. Now all I need to know is when the contest happens. The pick is quite beautiful.Believe it or not i was working a couple of pieces of the same stuff earlier.I got it from some really good friends in Colorado
I think your idea about the picks is great. If you run low on material let me know. I have a few pounds of stuff laying around.
Oh and about the thread. As you do with everything you have done great with this too. How can ya stand being so good at everything? Dan should be proud.
The more that know about how important mining is to our lives, the better! No matter what age.
How can I stand it Jim?.....I cant, because Im far from that person you speak of. But thanks for thinking so.
There are lots out there "Rockin' For Mining", so I wanted to come in here and thank them for doing their part in spreading the word about mining to others.
Thanks for all you do to help teach others about how important mining is in our lives. Keep up the good work, and thanks for the amazing tunes!
Todd Rice
Dennis Holt
Matt Mattson
Quentin Good
Gene Wiley
Quentin just came out with his first CD titled "The Fire Inside".
All songs were writen and performed by him. Congratulations Quentin!!
Sounds great.
If you know of someone who is rockin' for mining by jamming, and spreading the word about mining to others, I would love to hear about it.
Im also working on making a logo for Rockin' For Mining so If you draw, I would love to see your ideas on what you think it should look like.
How's about that pick Big D had on the other page?! I love that thing!
So, what's the contest?
Incidentally, I have been taking classes in Adobe Flex and I have all the Adobe Software so could probably help out with logos and such. Are you all gonna make a new website under the same name too?
Also, where can I hear some of Quentin's new CD? Is there a youtube link or anything?
Thanks Todd.........CP is spoiled and does get the best from me.
Im still working on contest details, but as soon as I have them together,
I'll post them here.
We are not going to create a new website for "Rockin' for mining".
All will be done in person or through the ColoradoProspector website.
Im just wanting a logo for flyers, that we will be passed out bringing awareness to mining. If you come up with some ideas for a logo Todd, I would love to see them.
Just a reminder.........We are not making any money from this or raising funds,
just bringing awareness to things people need to know about mining.
As far as hearing Quentins CD online.......No such place yet, hes lucky if he climbs out of the holes to eat let alone get on the puter.
Ok.........In the Jam session part of the forum, I quoted this from a video.
Oooohhhh.......that's easy if you pay attention here......(or if you know music)
Since I already have a pick (and Big D won't come offa his..)
I won't play. BUT I'll give others a hint, too......
The chord progression for their biggest hit is Am, C, G.
Okay. So Julie and I are taking off for a few days, I'll check back then to see if anybody figured it out when I'm gone.
<-------Looks over at Todd smiling.
Ok Todd.........After picking up the guitar and plucking at it a bit.....Seems you know right where Im talking about. Good job!
I dont think It would be fair for you not to be able to participate just because you already have one. Can never have too many stone guitar picks.....hehe
Anyone else?.....Seems Todd is giving you a chance for a guitar pick of your own.
Lets hear it.
I am not a greedy person. Besides, the only downfall to the great picks you make is that it appears it is too good. Yep, that's right......too good.
You see, I beat the heck out of picks-one usually never lasts more than a couple of songs. But this thing is indestructible!!! I've been using it daily almost for months.
Anyways, I hope someone gets this soon. The suspense is killing me.....
But, if Big D wants to award me the one pick..........
edit; However, Mrs. CP-if'n you all ever happen to make a pick out of that fire agate.........I don't care how hard the contest is. I'll figure something out to win one of those!!!!
I am very happy to hear your enjoying your guitar pick Todd!
Your words are too kind.
Ever hear that old saying..."Careful what you wish for"?
Fire agate guitar picks you say? Just who would be carzy enough to vise up a hunk and whack away?! OH that might be me........
I must be runnin' amok amok amok amok.....
Well here are a couple of what we tried.........we had a golf ball sized or so hunk that was covered in white agate/chalcedony but it looked like there was something hiding inside. Off to the saw with ye'!
Well ...... 3 lucky slices later I found something inside.........hope this don't embarass the bubbles .......but...........I found out the undies on fire agate bubbles have color too!!
Check it out.
Not perfect as you can see the bubble forms cruxes in the material but for the most part it's a solid form.
Well Todd........any good?
Heres another shot........both have totally solid pickin' areas too........
That's what I dig about you guys-a fella came drop a hint and you all jump right on it.
Those picks are simply beautiful. Darn, you're good............
I'm sure you could also nearly double the price. I have never seen a fire agate pick, and I'm sure that they are an instant collectors item.
Good job, D&D!!!! You guys rock! (pun intended)
At the last gem and mineral show in Jeffco fairgrounds, I talked with the lady who is the president of the Denver gem and mineral club for about an hour. She was very cool and working on fire agate at the show for a couple of hours. I tell ya what, fire agate is quite the rage, and you guys have done one heck of a job!
Call that Fire Agate guitar pick yours (top left) for all your efforts Todd!
We like to reward those that put an extra effort out for others.
Keep up the good work!
What does a Del Norte ThunderEgg do when waiting to be cut?
Its rockin' for mining of course....hehe
ROCK ON!!!
okay-that was gay......
So did no one every guess the band and song?
Geesh, it's not that hard.....
Todd!
Sorry it took me so long to respond. Ive been spreading some awareness to mining http://www.coloradoprospector.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=2312 outside the internet. Was a blast!
Seemed the biggest question I was getting was...What is an agate?
Only because I told them I use agate for the guitar picks because its so hard. ...hehe
Amazing how interest brings on questions and learning.
Link above is an example.
I have a few people interested in your mining music video,
and are working on something.
I'll have to get back to you on that one but I will.
Guess the contest question was too hard, so lets try this instead...?...
See the thing on the books to the left in the picture with the Rockin' Thunderegg?
(picture 2 posts above this one)
The guitar pick for the contest.......and maybe more will go the the first person to tell me what it is or what its called.
Okay. Just so everybody knows, the answer to the original question is 3 doors down......
but I'm not gonna tell you the name of the song.......
And the answer to the new question I know, of course ( ). I had one for years when I was, um, "younger", he-he. I loved the Who, and one of my all-time favorite songs was "Join Together". Although not very musically evolved, the part this instrument played in the song really rocks. I think it was cool, and still do.
p.s.-We had our big cat "Boo" get this alley girl pregnant-so she moved in and had her babies (they just adorable, the little demons!) downstairs in the music room (main basement) of our house, so once they find new homes I'll do the video. But there's not gonna be much of me (no way!) on it. I'm sure that people will love it, and it really is good. Lots of mining pictures, a little funny stuff and some great leads (plug plug)!
You can see pics of the kittens and more at my myspace thingy; http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewPicture&friendID=379927686&albumId=572018
Did you know it took 66 minerals for you to view this webpage right now?
Well,,,since no one else is posting the answer to what the jews harp is,,I guess I can use another stone pick. Nevr have too many guitars or picks.
Thanks,,,
Good job Bill.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpQf930WiDw&feature=related music video was the answer to the first quiz.
Todd was the only one who had guessed that one right.
Here is a cool little quote from the end of the video...
This is a Boulder Opal teddy bear, (Rockin' For Mining!) using a white Opal guitar with Boulder Opal inlay.
I made this having no idea what I was going to do with it.
Details on how to win it coming soon.
Details on how to win the Opal Rockin' For Mining teddy bear.........
Do you know an individual who brings awareness to Mining, and how important it is?
Do they help by educating others (young or old) in out of ordinary circumstances?
We would like a small write up (in this thread) of the person, and why you have chosen them.
And you can't nominate yourself.
Now is the time to nominate them to win the bear.
They should get recognition for all their hard work!
This shouldnt be that hard If were paying attention and getting the word out there!
Winning nomination gets the Opal teddy bear.
The person who nominated them will receive their choice of a guitar pick from the http://coloradoprospector.com/MinersMarket/FolkArt/StoneGuitarPicks.html.
(Excluding collector or set picks)
Ever sit and think.."Amazing how much of Earths resources we use everyday!"
Lets take this simple #2 Pencil for example.
Lots of people use this simple tool throughout their day, while most dont have the thought
"What does it take to make a pencil?" Earths Resources!
Lets break it down shall we.
*Petroleum for the eraser
*Zinc and copper for the brass fitting
*Iron machinery to shape it
*Various different minerals for the paint pigments
*Clay binder and Graphite combined to make the "lead" core
So next time you sit down to use a pencil, think about the importance of these resources and how they apply to you.
I know.....I distract easily dont I.
I think Im going to end this contest due to lack of interest.
Shame too, I could think of several people who could have been nominated.
I will think of something else to do with the Opal bear.
Im still out there reminding people of the importance of mining in their every day life.............Are you?
Even though the contest for fun ended, my efforts never will!
Let's keep "Rockin' For Mining!"
Gave out 2 more stone guitar picks to a couple local musicians. They loved the fact that the material was mined and made into guitar picks by us right here in the valley. Makes one look at their environment a little different.
Keep rockin' and get that work out there!!
Aww I missed this thread! Boo!
Too late for the contest but never too late to educate about the importance of mining! I might have another contest in this thread again.
Todd posted in this thread a lot but he is no longer with us. He was a truly talented man and will be greatly missed. Was way too young to loose his life! He donated two faceted Aquamarines from Mt. Antero so we could promote the site. We decided to use them this year as a prize in the http://www.coloradoprospector.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3970.
