QUOTE (Rockyrat @ Sep 23 2014, 09:44 AM) *
Here's a lizard that I saw at the Topaz Point Picnic Area on Rampart Range Road. I really didn't expect to see a lizard at 8800 feet ASL. It was sharing a rock outcropping with some Chipmunks that were very camera shy.

I see those little guys on my claim which is similar terrain and altitude (8500). I have not been able to take a photo to identify them yet but you have a good pic of one there. So I pulled out the Reptile ID book and it looks like a Northern Fence Lizard. I have tried to catch them or follow them but they are fast.

This was a pretty good sized specimen. I would say ~7" tip to tip. It really didn't seem to mind me getting a close up pic.

It's that time of year. Here are pics of two different bull snakes that passed through the yard this last week. slaphead.gif
I think the first one was waiting by the seed dish for a kangaroo rat.

Both snakes Terra came to the front door to warn us with head gestures they were in the yard. The smaller first one was headed out through the poultry fencing when we went out. Dan just chased that one off a ways. The larger second one was right to the side of the front door. I brought the dog in and Dan chased it out of the yard (tight squeeze through the fencing) but it didn't want to have anything to do with him chasing it off so it started to turn on him and get aggressive. smiley-shocked003.gif That one got to kiss his shovel and is now food for the birds.

She is a very good girl! happy.gif Seems everything is hungry here in this desert right now. desert.gif Getting lots of rain last night and today though so hopefully some stuff will start to grow here. Tim saw a hawk drop a snake yesterday by the end of the property.

Snakes are not graceful flyers!

Snakes fly very gracefully.... they just suck at landing.
