This is a piece I found somewhere in North Park, CO. I think it has Calcite attached.

thumbsupsmileyanim.gif Great find, and sweet color! I have seen some that color from Teller county glow in the dark. smiley-shocked003.gif

If I'm not mistaken - Double refraction. Cooler than the other side of the pillow!
What a coincidence, I just learned (last night) about this effect in my Rocks and Minerals Guide which I bought two days ago.
Not all crystals have this effect. The crystal splits light into two rays: Ordinary, which doesn't deviate and Extraordinary which shifts when the crystal is rotated.
Creates that wicked cool effect. Neat pic!!!

Great info Chris! Sounds like a good book. This Fluorite is definately a keeper! Your right, it cant be seen from all angles. The effect from the smaller Fluorite attached on the back, just popped in there when I turned it..... Along with more detail on the backside of the larger one. happy088.gif

Now one can see why Fluorites are one of my favorites!

excited.gif I really like this thread!! Some sweet Fluorite finds. thumbsupsmileyanim.gif
Here is a larger example of the great green Fluorites found here in Colorado. This piece fills the palm of my hand. Lots of fractures but definately a keeper. It even has a smaller purple Fluorite under the green ones.

Speaking of fluorite, I've posted this before but some of the newbies might not have seen it.

http://golddredger.com/fluoritemine/fluorsparmine1.htm

It's since been totally reclaimed and no longer there.

Here is one for you Mrs.CP. A blocky, heart-shaped fluorite on quartz.

thumbsupsmileyanim.gif Sweet heart shaped Fluorite Mike! Even looks like a bit of Microcline at the bottom of it.
Thanks for sharing your cool find with us. signs021.gif

I made a video of the minerals my friends and I have found rockhounding for fun. First half of the video shows Quartz, Goethite, Amozonite and Topaz. Last half shows Fluorites including some very large colorful specimens and a large smokey quartz set on feldspar.

Here is video of some of my recent Fluorite finds. The first half of them are light purple with gold colored sparkles, they have some of the best clarity and luster that I have found in the area. We are finding them with smokies and Microcline. The second half are blue with blue sparkles and phantoms inside. We are finding these with the Goethite and Quartz. There is no audio with the video, so don't stress, your speakers are likely working just fine. eating-popcorn-03.gif thumbsupsmileyanim.gif
