Interesting, as several states will accept the use of precious metals as currency. In fact, one such state is Utah, and they will give you the metal value, not face value. If you have a $20 Double Eagle and the business is willing to accept the coin, it's value is not $20, but it's weight- .9675 toz. So instead os $20, you get $1,383.62 minus what you purchased.
