Hey all! Really it's a true pleasure to be here, people are kind and really informative! I've love rocks and minerals since I was a child, both of my grandparents were geologists so they instilled that love in me. It's only been recently that I've gotten back to rock hounding again. I've missed it dearly! I live in Steamboat Springs, but my family lives in New Castle area. I love Colorado since I've moved here 7 years ago! Can't wait to add to my small collection. I have so many plans! I want to own a tiny jar of gold that I've panned, I want to go metal detecting, and I want to get dirty finding rocks! excited.gif

The First picture, is my favorite specimen; a huge chunk of raw iron! I couldn't tell you where I found it, it was the first year I was here but I can say it was on the western slope.

The Second, My recent venture outside Yampah towards the flattops. Very cool rock with lots of holes! Old volcanic rock? Some neat little pieces of something, I'm not sure what it is, they look like bubbles?

The Third, is a collection of rocks from a place I randomly googled outside Grand Junction. It's Mica, Calcite, and a cool partial imprint of a shell it seems.

Fourth and Finally, I found these recently outside Tiki Copper Mine Near New Castle, it's an abandoned old one, but it was cool to look at! Found a bunch of Gypsum.

Thanks for reading! I'd love to meet some of you, if you're willing to introduce yourself :) Keep Rocking! sweet.gif

Welcome to the forums Meghan! We have some great information in the forums so you will love it here. thumbsupsmileyanim.gif Lots to help with the learning curve. You are in the right place for getting back into it. Colorado has some amazing rocks and minerals to be found.......as you have already "found" out. emoticon-misc-004.gif Sweet finds!

The chunk of raw iron is very cool you found and a nice sized piece too. The smaller bubbly pieces are Agate, one of my favorites. I love how the bubbles form like that! signs021.gif Seems your collection is growing nicely! Thank you for sharing pictures of your finds. I always love seeing what other have pulled from the ground.

Good luck out there and stay safe.
