Here is a really cool piece of Agate that Timmy found while digging. I did a hardness test with a steel knife on it and it's harder than a 6 on the hardness scale.
We will be looking for more of this stuff, it will make some great cabachons or sculptings. -------------------- Education is the key to the future,

I need to come in here and correct myself because I want to make sure the information I'm giving you is correct.
When doing the hardness test I used a pocket knife blade which has the hardness of 5.5. It is steel but it is not as hard as the tempered steel of a steel file which is 7.5 on the scale. I also tested it with a steel file and still no scratch making it harder than 7.5 on the scale. -------------------- Education is the key to the future,

Weather has been great here, was 78 yesterday. Here are some things that Tim found recently. First picture is of some Fulgurites that he has been looking for. Good job Tim, those are nice ones. While he was digging and classifying he found a spot riddled with bones. Of course the paleontologist in him kicked in. He sat there for hours sorting through the bones and trying to place them together to find out what it was.
Was a fantastic day out enjoying this nice weather! -------------------- Education is the key to the future,

Here is a cool piece of petrified wood Tim found. Stuff would make fantastic cabachons!!
Love the black with red in it.....Sweet find Tim! We will definately be looking for more of this stuff. Sorry for the bad picture. This was the only one I took of it because Tim gave it to the girl down the road. (The looks she gave him when he found it ) -------------------- Education is the key to the future,

Here is a great example of Colorado botryoidal agate found recently. The piece looks black but when help up to the sunlight shows translucent brown. I have made some of my best looking guitar picks from this stuff!!

Really cool pieces. I've never seen Petrified Wood like that. That last one is interesting too.... when I fully enlarged it for a closer look it possibly has some Olivine on the left side?
Any chance that could be Tektite? -------------------- /l ,[____], l---L-OlllllllO- ()_) ()_)--o-)_) BLACK SANDS MATTER! Very Happy CP Lifetime Member CP CORE TEAM Referral Code CE213 |

I wish it was a Tektite but it's not. More botryoidal agate but this piece has more to it....possibly Jasper? Here is a picture of the other side.

Here is a cool piece of Epidote quartz mix. It shows signs of the dark brown agate found in the San Luis Valley. Is even sporting a little quartz pocket.
Oh look, a petrified Oreo! Actually, it's an example of the dark brown agate wrapped around a little quartz pocket. I hope everyone's search has been going well! -------------------- Education is the key to the future,

Here is a piece of a dark brown Agate seam found in the San Luis Valley. Stuff is really cool when cut thin. It shows either big bubbles or littler bubbles but all have shadows in the bubbles when moved like there is water inside. This piece looks to have big bubbles looking at the upper side. I think this stuff has made some of my best looking stone guitar picks!

This is a pretty cool Agate! You can see the druzy layer at the top running through it. Can see by the lower half of the Agate where the druzy band blends with the other layers.
