I just wanted to share a few pictures I took of Colorado.
I love this state......... and the history behind it.
And when the day is over............it makes you glad your here in Colorado. :)
My god those are beautiful pictures!! I especially like the 3rd and 4th ones!! Thanks for sharing those Denise!!
kriss
Thanks Kriss. I love taking pictures of the clouds the most .
Here is another. :)
I used to call that God's television. Sunrise and sunset good on the river. Mark :P
Nooooooo, I can't look......But I must..........Nnnnnnnoooooo I can't look.....I have..
I have.....to ....fight...it........Aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh........
**POOF**
great now you did it, I'm a greenie now and will be your worst nightmare, I must go now and water my garden....Oh is that parsley?
:D :D
wow, how weird! I like taking pictures of clouds and skies too!! I took these the other day...but the first one i took awhile back...
Kriss
pic#2...taken last week. I know it's boring but it was a nice, crisp looking day!!
and pic#3...also taken last week.
It's been raining/snowing alot this week, I might take more tomorrow during the day!
Gotta luv them clouds 'eh?, The oregon beach between storms.
Top of the World looking out to the Ocean between the storms, this was several years ago as a christmas card cover that we sent out to family in AZ.
Great pictures!!! B)
Now you hit my weakness. ;)
That 2nd pic of yours Isn't boring at all Kriss.......quite the opposite I think.
I saw lots of things with my imagination in those clouds, very pretty. Thank you.
I agree Mark, Its the only kind of TV I get these days. I mostly listen to music.
Great pics Redpaw, did you say you took those pics?
Here is another of mine.....
denise, if you sqwint real hard on your first picture ,towards the upper center of the picture, you could just bearly make out where id like to live!!!!!!!!! haha!!!!!! those pictures are truly beautiful!!!come on clorado rally time!!!
Your making me homesick....... I left 25 years ago, I still get back 2-3 times a year but, that's still not enough. Thanks for the pitures and memories...... :)
Hi sgaolson,
Do you like to fish? :)
Here is one of the guys fishing on the Yankee Doodle. They caugth a total of 28 fish in about 3 hours between the 3 of them. ^_^ :P :D
We had a great day......And buy the way, they threw all the fish back. ;)
That's some nice lookin bedrock there. I promise to be real quiet with the dredge so as not to disturb your fish'n Only kidd'n I used to go up to 11 Mile Canyon below the dam and do some trout fishing. Also did some snagg'n in the reservior too.
I tried to post one of my pictures but it was to big, how do you reduce them to fit??? :(
What I was thinking, was we could dredge after we fish... :D :D
If you dont have a program that will resize your photos, you can always send them to me, and I can resize them and send them back to you. ;)
You can always reach us at webmaster@coloradoprospector.com
We would be glad to help.
Denise
:)
Okay! The sky pictures were all I needed to make me add one of my favorites. It's not Colorado though. It was New Years at Stanton arizona. This is Dave with Venus in the background.
Leonard
Leonard That is one way COOL picture!!! B)
Leonard sent me a program called IrFan View, but I'm to stupid to figure out how it works. I remember how intellegent I felt showing my Dad how to stop the clock from flashing on the VCR. Now, my son comes over to show me how to use the surround sound
Hi Leonard,
Welcome to the forums.
Great picture!! If you have more, I would love to see them. :)
Im a sucker for a good picture. ;)
Denise
:)
Here's my favorite picture.(doom and destruction sky.
mom says thats a typical teenager for ya. )
Mrs. CP takes her camera out every morning , onto the deck and gets a sunrise picture almost every day :P :) this is one of 'em.
She stares and she stares and she stares at the sky every day.
(I wonder why,as the 3 year old screams in the backround. )
:o wow...I LOVE that pic...so much red in it...
awesome shot Denise!! thanks for sharing boy detector!!!
Kriss
Thanks for the help Denise, this is from the "Flats" at Douglas Creek Wyo. Just after a storm
Anytime sgaolson. Great picture!! Thanks for sharing it with us.
Thanks Kriss, boy detector knows skies are my weakness. A mom has to get a break anyway we can right? ^_^ :P :)
Can you see the baby the herd is protecting?? ^_^ :)
With a little duct tape and WD-40 I think we can get it running again. What do you think?
Just a guess....... Grand Tetons?
Better bring two rolls of duct tape for the old truck above though.....
Love the Pics D and ya know what the men who made the colorado roads must have been drunk never been on such wild and curvy roads ours go straight up and down guess that is Why the 4 wheel drive was invented in wyo
A few yrs back me and Rob took a trip up one of them straight up and down roads and when we got to the top I could swear I was looking at gods feet as I couldn't see anything below us just up and there was puffy clouds with little rays of sunshine coming through. And of course Rob being the man he is he forgot the camera but it was our 2nd honeymoon so I could forgive him ;)
Too far west Denise, a little closer to your home and a little farther north.
As you can see in the other picture "Dredge Boy" was looking pretty hard at that truck, he made the "fella" an offer but, his credit was so bad he couldn't get financing. So he's still hoff'in it! :P
Heya Denise!! I've been "out of commission" for a few days with a nasty dose of poison oak, had to go to the ER for a shot yesterday and I'm finally getting to go out mining again with Bill today!!! I cant wait!! He's been finding some GOOD gold on our claim...pickers/nuggets etc!! He told me he was gonna find a nugget the other day...and he sure as hell did!! Our claim is lookin' real good!!!
Anywho... got up early and I went outside this morning and took this...thought you'de like it. It looks so pretty outside right now...it's supposed to start raining in a bit so be prepared in a few days for rain/snow!! It's headed your way!!!!!
Kriss
WOW Kriss!!!!
Thats a great shot. You have a great eye for photo taking!!
Im sorry to hear that you had such a hard time, but im glad your ok now. ^_^ :) It sounds like the claim is going be a blast for u2 this summer.
I want to see some pickers/nuggets pics. B)
Again.........WOW!!!! Thanks for sharing, and the heads up about the snow. :)
Denise
:)
Thanks...I will put a couple more in here...heres the little nugs from the other day. as luck would have it, we hardly got anything today except a few flakes...ran into a few issues with one peice of equipment. must be friday the 13th! lol
anywho...heres one pic...and I will also post the other 2 I took this am...I feel somewhat crappy from these meds so we will take pix of the other stuff tomorrow!!
K.
Great pictures Kriss!! :o :)
Here is one that I have listed with
http://www.picture.com/
I call it cloud face.
Denise
:)
Thats awesome! Bill liked it too...the face is so noticeable in that!! I was supposed to go with him today to take pix in different areas of our claim...he found a kick butt waterfall that he says I'm gonna LOVE, but I can't go! :( My little "gold-minder"(as she calls it) is sick and we don't want to drag her around outside until her cough chills out some. I cant wait to see the pictures he brings home today!!
look at the link below....scroll down to the second entry with the pic...thats some of what we got the other day on our claim. Things are looking VERY promising for us there!
http://golddredger.com/dcforum/DCForumID2/950.html
take it e-z gold lovers!!
Kriss
Bill brought me home a pic or 2 dozen of some of the stuff I havent seen on the claim yet. here is a waterfall he's been telling me about!! There's so many more pix to choose from but there ya go!!
kriss
Nun that is lookin GOOD. I'm so wishin I was there
It's so beautiful out where our claim is...Bill took more pix and posted them on our webshot page. here's the link...he added another two folders I think. enjoy all!!
http://community.webshots.com/user/skunkapemining
kriss
Sweet looking spot Kriss!! :o
I hope the little "gold-minder ^_^" feels better soon.
Looks like the claim is turning out to be a great one. Thanks for sharing the pics.
sgolsen, that waterfall looks like it's *either* the Yellowstone or Clark's Fork of the Yellowstone. How far off am I?
Carl
I'm probably one of the few non-coloradians here. That was taken here in Northern Cali...close to the Klamath River. beautiful area here...the link below is cool...if ya ever wanna visit/dredge in cali, this whole area cant be beat!!! B)
http://www.sisqtel.net/~rbley/for_your_information.htm
k.
Sorry about that SLN, I was talking about the pic that sgolsen put up. I swear it looks like the Yellowstone or Clark's Fork of the Yellowstone. Gotta be. One or the other. And if it neither, let's go pan it! :D
:D DIND DING DING :D You got it Carl, "Artist Point" on the Yellowstone. Suppose to be the most painted landscape in the country. When I uploaded that picture I swear it looked just like a post card. Here's another with my wife in it, there's a bench right there and we both sat there for close to 2 hours and never said a word. I have been to a lot of places so far, but this is that's prettiest yet.
It looks like it posted to me Garry. :) Great picture!
Spring time in the Rockies is getting the best of me today. It's raining, snowing, and the sun is shining. :o I can't wait till summer!!
Hi Guys thanks for the great pics l'm an Aussie and the more that l see of your great country the more l want to visit !!! Best wishes all ...Picky
Theres nothing like a fresh snow fall in the peaceful woods in the mountains!
Just ask anyone who lives here in this beautiful state of Colorado. :)
That's beautiful Denise
Thanks Garry! ^_^
So this weekend we took GOLDDIGGER for a little pre-spring romp up Rampart Range Road. Not a tough road but ruts and washboards aplenty! The views from up there are amazing, sooooo...being the shutterbug that I am, got some sick B&W's of Mr. Pike bearing the brunt of a microburst.
Well Denise, it worked! Got to lovin' all them pics of Colorado, and being a Colorado native, I figured what the heck! So I'm back now! Like a bad penny, I always turn up....(as Indiana Jones once said)!
Carl
Excelent pic EE. You have a good eye for photo taking.
Welcome back Carl!
There's gold in them thar hills. ^_^ Hope you brought your equipment......
Welcome back to CO! Thanks D!!!
carl are you saying that you moved back to colorado? where at?
Yeah Russ, I'm back like BO (or a bad penny, your call)! Hanging out in Buena Vista. Nice community. Small. But also twice as expensive as Wyoming. For what I'm paying at this place for what I call the "wooden sardine can" I could rent a small but nice 2 bed single bath house on a nice lot (at a few undisclosed locations in WY).
But it's nicer here. At least here the state ain't threatening me with $10,000 in fines for panning without a #^%($&%# permit!
Carl
Holy crap dude, are you serious? I would have thought that WY would be like CO when prospecting is concerned. Hey, how much snow you guys got up there?
wel carl your down there with a lot of nice people! D/D,EE,Mark Evans,Leonard,Ed ,etc. what more could you ask for?
HEY! Never use the "N" word in the same sentence as EVIL ERNIE!!! :P
Going beeping tomorrow again. Anyone interested? Bringing my backup P202 with me just in case any noobs I run across wants a whack at it. Had a few peeps asking tons of questions about MDing and their kids drooling over my beeper.
Contact me Ernie. I have a cheapy made by Tandy and would love to see the newer stuff.
Carl
For what it's worth, if anyone needs a prospecting buddy, you know where I'm at!
Carl
Sorry, wasn't able to get out this weekend. Ended up with the usual springtime honeydo list...too bad, it was an awesome weekend.
The weather has been pretty foggy and cold here..........and thats when its not snowing. :(
It makes for some nice pics though. :)
Sometimes you just have to give up looking for nice weather, and enjoy the clouds...
:D
Oh well....... Thats spring time in the Rockies. :)
This is one Dan took for me on Mothers Day.
Mornings here are fantastic! :)
This one would make a good puzzle.
Here is a pic of Indian Paint Brushes.
Here is a pic of some purple Showy Daisies. :)
^_^
Railroad bridge at Buena Vista...
I've been there...hehehe
Great picture EE! B)
I can plainly see why they call the town Buena Vista. Alex (The Human Backhoe) will be comin back to us in early July and staying til Sept 5th. He'll be helping me build and test the new dredge I have planned. Plus I'll be takin him up to the Arkansas for a little campin/diggin, and then we'll hang up the pans and pick up the irons for a little links action. Hopefully, we'll get some diggin time together!
Here's one for you. Taken on the way home from Buena Vista.
Great pic Leonard! I bet you all had a blast, I wish we could have gone.
Here is a pic of The Garden Of The Gods near Manitou Springs.
This place is magical. :)
Colorado's state flower.... the Columbine.
^_^
Mt. Princeton, not much snow left!
Carl
How high is the Arkansas flowing? I'm thinkin of takin Alex up there in a few weeks...
Still up there a bit. No idea on the CFS. Not as low as I wish.
Very nice picture Carl! Here is one of the end to another beautiful day here in Colorado. ^_^
Bbbbrrr, its getting cold and the leaves have even fallen completely from a few of the Aspen trees. This was a shot I got the other night when I went for a walk.
Nice view, hard to turn down! Cottonwood Pass a month back, looking north.
Here's a five gallon bucket I picked up garbage with. Went down both side of the pass, both sides of the road. 1/10 of a mile each side. To the first speed limit sign, then switch sides.
I was busy getting the garbage, that Imissed a few sights. Like a really nice car that felt it's ok to toss out a small bag of trash. Damn. Times like that make me wish I had a <description of illegal firearm removed>....
i hear ya, some people just dont get it, its our country and we have to keep it looking beautiful, my god it isnt downtown denver
Thanks for helping keep Colorado beautiful Coalbunny.
Nice pic by the way. B)
Let me know if you all get sick of seeing my sunrises and sunsets...hehe
Can you tell they are my favorite? ^_^
ok enough with the sunrise and sunset pics, geeze enough already
just kidding :P
Hey Wyo, would you like to see a picture of a moon????
not from you gary!hahahaha
From a way earlier post:
>Just a guess....... Grand Tetons?
Nope, heres the Tetons.
Leonard
Here's a Douglas Creek one.
Garry, please refrain from mooning the community!
Nice pics guys!
Here is one from the snow fall the other day. :)

I do like a nice snow pic denise.
:D :D
The gold sky above Fairplay at the end of the day.
Here is a pic of the sun going down over by Wilkerson Pass.
A cool green visitor in this beautiful yellow cactus flower.
Hi Denise, great Photo, Whats the bug.
Thanks Alan.....
As Pumbaa would say.."MMMMM......The squishy green filled kind"......
But me, im not sure.
Colorado has been getting so much rain that everything is so green, and all the mountain flowers are still in full bloom.
Hard to believe this flower (thistle) makes so many people in Colorado mad.
They sure are pretty though.......and seems they can have advantages.
http://www.foodconsumer.org/777/8/Milk_thistle_compound_prevents_lung_cancer_in_mice.shtml
heres a colorful pic for ya
you to ! mine is on my left leg/foot. i got mine in oroville washington at the rally while pulling leonards dredge out of the river. good thing i cant fell anything in that leg/foot! been that way for 20 years now!hope you get feeling better soon! i never felt a thing and wouldnt admit it if i did!
when the 500 pound joint of pipe hit me after falling about 4 feeti admit.....i acted like i felt it then kinda hobbled 200 yards to my truck , called my boss and drove two hours to the emergancy room
Heres a pic I took from the plane coming back to Denver from Oklahoma city.
Here's a picture I got of the moon coming up yesterday.
( Date being 12-04-06)
a cardinal from out texas trip
one morning on our place
There's a Texas in Colorado Wyodust? ............
Good to see you moved back to Colorado........that mean your going to work your claim more now?
Nice pictures!!!!Could have done without that nasty leg one though.
Here is one in the San Luis Valley......in Colorado.
will be coming up a few times after the rally too, been crazy here,
finishing the basement and a moss rock side walk...wheew i rest up at work
Starting to get a bit chilly here again.
Caramba Lucy!
Cold and beautiful. Looks like a scene out of an Eastwood movie!
Thanks,
faaus
Colorado is a beautiful place, and very cold right now!
You can view live scenery shots from our http://www.coloradoprospector.com/cp_webcam.html.
Here is a shot I pulled from the webcam page of a sunrise.
Winter Wonderland!
Very nice denise, There is a great snow pic on the Breckenridge web cam today.
http://www.dickgilbert.com/breckenridgecam4.htm
Cool link Cornwall. I think I have that one on the CP webcam page for "Other Colorado Webcams".
Here is one from yesterday. Sun was out but the wind wouldnt let up.....sigh
No hiking for me today, Im staying home warm with the family.
Now that really is a great shot, with the wind-blown powder. Only problem is now I have to put a sweater on! Really looks numbingly cold!
When I was a kid in NY state, we'd played hockey on the ice behind my house. I can remember falling and splitting my chin open, but never realizing it until the blood made the other guys start hollering about it. THAT kind of cold!
Ouch! Hate to say it but.....been there and done that.
Michigan can get pretty cold in the winters also. Especially off the Upper Peninsula of Lake Superior.
Here is a nice shot we caught awhile back.
It was so quiet in the woods that day......all one could hear was the slight tap of fat snow flakes hitting the trees.
I remember that day very well........Its moments like that, that makes life worth living for.
Great picture Dan! She tried so hard not to be seen by us.......hehe
cool deer pic, love seeing all wildlife, makes me think of recipes
beautiful WYOMING sunrise
these are really nice pictures. you guys need to submit these to magizines tobe published and get some$$$$$$$$$$ for them.
Thanks for the compliments Russ!
It helps to enjoy what your doing and seeing.
Here is a picture the webcam usually shows in the winter of Colorados scenery. This camera shows better details than the webcam does though. Was taken February 1st, bright and early.
On the edge of springtime!
Haha Carl! Looks like we have less snow then you do now.
I can see the ground to dig already here.
Thanks for sharing the pic with us and hang in there, spring is on its way.
Ok.....I spoke too soon...hehe
The mountains sure are beautiful after a fresh snow fall though.
Here's a shot from a couple weeks ago. Nice bull elk in the valley along a small creek fed from a warm water spring.
Check out the peaks in the back drop..........BRRRRRRRRRRRR!
We are so ready to see the beautiful Rockies. The Smokies are at this time our favorite place in the world, but I have a feeling that that may change before too long..........oooooooo I'm sooooooo ready
You picked a great time to come to Colorado Jim. Its going to be fun.
Thats a fantastic picture Dan! Your pretty good at picture taking. Good eye!
This was the ending to another Beautiful Colorado day.
Out enjoying the beautiful day with the family.
This is one of our favorite digging areas.
Ahhhhh, the snow has finally melted. Here is a shot of the end of the day.
im possibly looking for a unattainable peice of lColorado land to buy. im looking for a affordable 5-10 acres of rural land that has a gold bearing stream on it that i could dredge without being hasseled by anyone. well, i can dream cant i!!!
Definately Russ........."Dreaming is a good thing cause it brings new things to life".
Here is one of Colorado's first flower to bloom in the spring.
And happens to be purple.....hehe
If April showers bring May flowers....What did the Mayflower bring?
bees, to polinate the plants and to sting people.
Those too...........But I was more thinking "Pilgrams"....hehe
Just a little clean humor for the forum.
Picture taken in Fairplay of some of the gold tailing piles.
Makes me want to go out and dig
Super Pic denise.
Thanks Alan!
These are from the same spot in Fairplay, just a little different view from the pond.
Lea (Scott's mom) took these at the Fairplay digs during the Spring Fling outing. See where the snow is left on the bank, and the Trout top feeding in the pond in the second picture?
Great shots Lea!
One of the many views in Salida.
Beautiful pics Denise. Makes me want to be back there.
Thanks Jim!
Theres no place like home.
This is a view from near Como. You only saw a small taste of Colorado's beauty Jim, so guess you need to come back for more.
i think i see a place for a cabin for me!
Here's a few pics from this year. I have more, but am too lazy....errr I mean busy counting my gold nuggets to put them into PhotoBucket.
Collegiate range from Lower Iowa Gulch-
Overlooking Birdeye Gulch from County Road 3-
The end of the road- South Evans Gulch
Denise, I promise I bring your car back in one piece.....
Great pictures Carl! Is good to see your out there enjoying our beautiful state.
BTW.....I would NEVER lend you my car.
Colorado has seen alot of rain this year....and still coming.
Nice and green, and this picture was taken in June.
Couldnt ask for a more amazing place to live than Colorado!
well thanks to our legislators and the greedy finnancial institutions that we are bailing out my retirement has been postponed untill something turns around! and we keep voting these jerks into office???????????
(peeks to see if its safe to post yet....hehe)
But what a beautiful world we live in right Russ?
I suggest rubbing the tops of your ears while chanting (woooo-saaaa), and viewing this pic at the same time!?
Just a thought...hehe
yep no doubt! beautiful pics of Colorado! because of the decline in housing prices, it looks like im stuck in St. Louis Mo. for my retirement! the pictures sure help releive the pain!
Hang in there Russ!
Spring is in the air, excelent weather for digging! Not too hot, and not too cold.
Only hearing birds is ok with me.....hehe
Its fantastic being able to drive a dirt road for hours.....see for miles, with no signs of people.
Its almost a feeling that you and your family have the world to yourselves.
Spring time!
Weather has been great. High 70s and low 80s.
Pictures of the flowers bloomed coming soon.
boughanvilla?
No, actually I think its an ornamental cherry tree.
"This tree, along with other cousins of the same species, is the very symbol of spring beauty.
In Japan there is a believable legend that each spring a fairy maiden hovers low in the warm sky, wakening the sleeping Cherry trees to life with her delicate breath."
Dont think we will be eating any cherries any time soon though....The bird have better picking power than we do.
Amazing all the different kinds of birds that come to the trees though.
Here is a picture of some of the blooms open. Notice the tiny visitor who also loves the flowers?
This is the one I can't wait to see bloomed!!
Pics of it bloomed coming soon. Sorry, no scratch and sniff screens though.
The wonderful smell of Lilacs in the air!
Here is a picture of some in bloom.
Colorado is naturally a very colorful state. I took these pictures while out exploring and enjoying its beauty.
Here is the sign explaining why the mountains in this area are so colorful.
Here is one that will get your blood flowing and ready for the weekend.
Great pics!! That last one sure gives me gold fever.
If Im not mistaken Jack....You already had it a little. The pic may have made it a few degrees higher though.
I'm really looking forward to members outing on 4th. I can scratch that old itch one more time
Colorado sure is an amazing place.......So much to see and so little time!
Here is a picture of a spot on the Rio Grande River. Looks like lips in the sky kissing the day...hehe
Are you out enjoying the amazing views your area has to offer?
Here is a beautiful Western Blue Flag. These wild Iris' are amazing flowers!!
Keep an eye open for these when out enjoying this great state.
Fantastic pics OkieJon! I love the pictures with snowy peaks and green fields!
Good to see your out enjoying this great land of ours.
Here is a neat orange flower that stays closed on the hot dry days, but on cooler wet days looks like this.
Sure helps keep a smile on those rainy days.
Enjoy
Here is another orange flower that grows wild here in Colorado.
Sure is a great time to see all of them first hand!
Im really http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lichen this place! You never know what your going to see from one area to the next.
Here is a picture of a wild raspberry.
Colorado hasnt had much of a dry spell this year, so the berries arent as plentyful yet.
Its making the bears a bit on the grouchy side, so be on the alert when your out.
Remember the tree on the lastpage that I thought was a cherry tree? Its full of fruit now, but they dont look like cherries.
Looks more like a crabapple? What do you think?
Little Crabapples....so says all the deer that keep eating them.
Another beautiful day! You ready for it?
I am ready.
It's the first day of the 48th year of my life.
Happy Birthday Swizz!!!!
Hope you have a great day today! Eat some chocolate cake for me too.
Thanks!! (...and how did you know about my chocolate addiction? )
Hello,
Here are a few recent Colorado pics I took since I began rockhounding this early fall;
Near Mount Antero on a steep Jeep trail;
Mine at the end of this Jeep trail;
That ghost town that people are still living in the summer in near Buena Vista (forget the name)....main street;
Columbine flower near Caribou;
More flowers near Caribou;
At Ruby Hill outside Buena Vista area.....chalk cliff area;
HAPPY BIRTHDAY SWIZZ!!!
Great pics Hawkewind!!! Colorado is an amazing place for beauty and digging thats for sure.
Another Colorado view that really makes me appreciate living here!
Miners make it happen, and for ALOT of people!
Photos I took of a benched wall from mining activity.
Cool pic GB, I have a heck of a time getting evening sky shots! Dang, you have alot of snow there. We dont have any on the ground here.
That pic was taken a little b4 sunrise.
Word of mouth has it that we're supposed to be spring time.
I wish someone would tell the National Weather Service!
i gotta cut the grass today here in St.Louis Mo.
Cool pics Carl! Were you out there snowboarding?
The bugs are already out here, and the grass is starting to turn a shade of green where the snow melted.
Love living in the sunny side of Colorado!
Yep, 40* outside right now (01:29, Apr. 17th).
The driveway that was 1-1/2' of packed snow, now dirt & gravel.
Where's the pic Carl!!
Don't have any right now.
I took some pics of what a great time of year it is here in Colorado right now.
Who likes wild flowers? They are starting to come out! Here is one of my favorite wild flowers. Who can tell me what flower it is by this closeup?
Good job! I bet your yard looks beautiful.
Outstanding macro pic Denise, great depth of field! Five stars from me.
Thanks Chris! I especially like how the bud is nuzzled up to the opened flower.
Hey, since I have you here "bug nerd"....... Here is a picture of one that snuck in the house and was wandering around inside the front door like a lost puppy. I scooped it up and took it outside and placed it under the deck in the shade. I thought it was a mosquito eater at first, but the body is different. Is it a Crane fly?
Another great macro shot! Your guess of Cranefly (or Dobson) is probably correct. They look like skeets but are much larger (and harmless). That one has a larger abdomen than most and quite colorful, possibly a young lady expecting?
Good on you for placing her outside in the shade!
(they are also aquatic prior to their adult stage)
Great shot! I really need to start bringing my camera to work and take a few minutes each day to smell the roses.
Thanks Chris! You definately need to take a few minutes a day to "smell the roses".
I have been looking forward to seeing more of your pictures.
I have the camera, two lens', and tripod on board for work today!
Thanks for the inspiration, I tend to get lazy about it sometimes. This is definitely the time of year to have the camera along. Now, if I could only train my danged dog to keep her yap shut when she sees the wildlife I may get the critters to pose a little longer.
Guess she gets excited too Chris. I have to admit, I use my camera more like a gun. I strap it to my side, and when I see a shot I take it. Dan gives me heck all the time about how much I use the auto setting. I do what works for me.
Some shots I would have never gotten If It wasnt for my quick draw. I use my camera like most women use makeup or a charge card. I never leave home without it.
Good luck out there, and I cant wait to see some pics.
That last pic is fantastic Carl! You have to love Colorados weather though.
Here is a pic of a microburst heading our way. I thought it was smoke at first till the sand and wind hit me. That thing was huge!!
Get out and enjoy those wild mountain flowers while you can! Fall is right around the corner.
Love the color of these!
It's beautiful this time of year, but depressing because the prospecting season is nearly over...
[attachment=4529:DSC00407.JPG]
[attachment=4530:DSC00403.JPG]
Here's a few from the past week.
Pics 4, 5, & 6 were good pans, lots of garnets. After dinking around with it, I got a lot of the garnet away from the gold. Under a loupe this is ultra-fine grade gold. Very bright, and looked "fuzzy" from the gold crystals. In pic 6 you can see the gold....
Coincidentally that is the trip that Persistance finally found some unsalted gold! Right on Persistance! (Location is confidential).
Pics 7 & 8 I think Dan & Denise will recognize right off. If they don't then they don't know what they're missing!
Answer: Ruby Mine, Park County Road 22 (Weston Pass road). Which is being looked at by a mining corporation for purchase.
Even on those cold cloudy mornings, there is hope and beauty to be seen. Just look around.....Can you see it?
Hard to see the beautiful scenery Colorado has to offer by this pic....but just know that when the sun comes up, its a feast for the eyes.
Excellent shots Denise! Your sunrise pics inspired me to grab the camera this morning. This shot is from my place facing Berthoud Pass and the ski area.
"Red skies at morning, sailors take warning!"
Fantastic shot Swizz! Love those colorful skies!!
Dont forget about those beautiful Colorado sunsets when grabbing the camera.
You have to love Colorado's beauty.......even if you wake up to this in your yard.
It looks like I need to learn how to do this! I'm sure Dan or Denise can fix it for me though.
Leonard
No problem Leonard, got your extra pic/post taken care of. You'll get the hang of it with a little more posting.....first one worked great and yes you do have more snow than we do up here right now in the valley. It was too dang cold up here last few days for snow to fly. Thank goodness, we sure didn't need a big batch of the white stuff and those cold temps......YUK!
Hope everyone is staying warm and hopefully the warmer temps outside will be coming soon.
Leonard, i can just see you now out back this spring shooting hoops while waiting for dredge season!
Haha Leonard! I think everyone in Colorado has more snow than us now.
Love living in the SLV! Sure has been getting cold in the evenings though. Some nights down to the -20 range.
Here is what happens, to what little bit of snow we have gotten here in the valley.
Here's a little bit of backyard balloon drama from today.
I glanced out the back window and noticed the balloon back there. I figured he was launching so I set up for some good flight pics with Byers Peak in the background.
(as you can see... lots of snow still here, 4-wire winter... that barbed wire fence is about 4ft tall)
Then it suddenly deflated rapidly and and appeared to hung up on something! I was hoping it wasn't the power lines or trees.
So... I jumped in the Jeep and headed back there for a closer look or assistance. Thankfully it looks to be down safely at a neighboring ranch. Maybe it's ReMax dropping in to collect mortgage or something.
ahhhh, the drama, this is about as exciting as it ever gets for me out here in the sticks.
Great shots Swizz! A view like that with a beautiful hot air balloon beats a bunch of smelly cows anyday..... even with my beautiful view!
Colorado sure is an amazing place, with breath taking views around every curve. It amazes me how much snow you have there ( 4-wire winter). No snow to be seen here except on the mountain peaks. Im lovin' it!! Ive been there and done that as far as the deep snow goes, and its really nice to have a break from it thats for sure!
Bet most of you are surprised there is a place in Colorado right now that doesnt have snow, and hasnt most of the winter.
I need to get out there and do some prospecting before the snakes wake up, good thing my shovel can multitask.
Here's an odd pic I took on the way home from taxidermy class yesterday.
It is a Kite-boarder ripping across Lake Granby... you may have to "click to enlarge" to see him, was quite far away and I was fully zoomed with 300mm.
Great shot Swizz! I took a pic like that, but it was at Dillon Res. several years back. Sure looks like a blast, and what an upper body work out to get you ready for the prospecting season.
Timmy saw the picture you put in telling us about all your snow, and his first reply was.......
"Wow, he could make alot of snowmen there!" So you better get busy Swizz.
Nice one! That pic is much better than mine. If my knees still worked that looks like something I might try, lots of space for it up here.
Your shot shows more depth, and I get more of a feel of Colorados winter weather. It also shows how the thrill of excitement can warm the spirit enough to get out there and enjoy this beautiful state!
The igloo sounds cool Swizz........but your not getting out of making a snowman that easy.
If you prefer though, I have plans on making an igloo in the "living off the lands" section of the forum.
I bet LuLuBear would be all for an igloo though.
That is an absolutely breath taking image with fantastic color Swizz!!!! I love it!
I see tree branches with lichen hanging over the water, with amazing detail of gravel under the water. But I have a great imagination.
It reminds me of many beautiful places I have seen in Colorado!
I cant stop staring at the detail of the image in full size. I set it as my background image so I can look at it more.
Ok, lets have the story, where did this great image come from. Inquiring minds want to know.
Thanks Denise!
In all fairness, I took this shot with full intention of creating a photoshop piece.
It was taken during one of my recent fishing trips. Nothing more than an eroding stream bank which I was fishing in front of. When I took the pic I thought it could be easily rendered to something unique (hanging roots looked cool) and would be a fun one to play with. I performed only three photoshop functions to get this effect: Crop, Sepia, and Lunarize (opposite effect of Solarize). Fun!
Here is what it look like before I toyed with it, boring shot.....
Very cool effects from the toying! The original shots no so boring either.......just makes me want to go out and dig.
Thanks for working my imagination Swizz.
Wow Swizz, thats no fun! The weather here in the San Luis Valley has been sooo much different....
Thank goodness for me...
I think we hit 69 for the high yesterday, with sunshine most of the day. Flies are even out already here.
No snow for snowboarding here though.
I went to WY for a day and came back to much less snow here. At least 1 ft has melted, let the Mud Season begin! Take THAT old man winter.
More alpenglow looking to the east from my place during sunset. (Sorry for the repeated pics from this perspective but this view just never gets old to me) I caught the light at the right time with this one.
Note, the Aspen tree is starting to bud!
Meanwhile... back at the Ranch
I need to get to the Homestead cabin at the top of the hill on the right but the 'ol bridge ain't lookin so good right now.
Normally this is just a harmless tame creek (gold bearing) that you could roll up your jeans to your ankles and puddle-jump across. I've had Brook Trout swim up my sluice here while basking in the sun during normal flows.
She's a violent beast right now and the water's slapping the supports. I hope it survives but one or more renegade log or trees from upstream might do some damage. It's easily powerful enough to take a vehicle away right now.
Water is flowing from the left to right in these pics.
Great pictures Chris! The high water melt off is definately going to make for some fun gold prospecting this year!
Here is a cool little wildflower that I see every year this time in the valley, but Im not sure what its called.
This one was fond of thundereggs and crystals.
Anyone have any ideas on this one? I would love to know what it is.
Tree sculpture
Beetle Carvings
Great photos Chis, I always love natures art!!
Pretty talented of that tree to twist like that to form the heart.
Maybe the beetle carvings are really a beetle map, showing all the other beetles where the good stuff is. Kind of like those "you are here" maps at the mall.
You have an excelent eye for photography, keep those shots coming!
When it comes to a good natural heart......I spot it every time.
Here is a picture showing more of Colorado's beauty. Looks like a sandstone formation to me, but we never stopped to get a better look. What do you all think it might be, or why it is formed this way? Any thoughts?
Todays forcast was "haze". They just didn't mention it was becuae of the dirt in the air from the severe high winds.
Still a very beautiful sight to see and glad the winds have finally died down!
Good pics Denise!
Regarding that Sandstone image.... it looks like wind erosion to me, over a very long period of time of course. Was the pic taken in a wind-prone area?
I'm not sure about it being a wind-prone area or not, I want to look into that more. Another theory is water erosion over a long period of time. This was right off the road, so being that close to a road cut could have caused it to erode quicker?
Sure makes for a beautiful sight.
Here is a little spring time color with some Colorado Wildflowers. I hope everyone is out there enjoying this great weather.
Desert flowers! Beautiful shots Denise.
Thanks Chris! With all the extra moisture so far this year, the flowers are in full bloom all over. Here is a little splash of purple.
Couple of Colorado-esque shots I took today....
This is me with my nephew and his wife taken in the back yard here with Byers Peak in the background.
They live in France (she is French) but are in the US for a wedding and came by to visit the wild Mtn Goat Uncle . I really love these kids and it was a spur of the moment gift to be able to visit them in their travels.
Later, I went to evaluate a pool restoration project at Grand lake Lodge and took this one. Hard to complain about much when you live in a state as beautiful as we do!
Hiked up to one of my favorite Colorado high-country lakes today for some quality flyfishing.
Great pictures Chris! The first picture would have made a great addition to the smiles thread, you all have great smiles!! I really like the one with the guy fishing...classic shot!!
Sounds like a great time visiting and fishing.......sweet fish by the way, and great closeup!
Very cool!!
The San Luis Valley has some crazy storms roll through it. This one brough ALOT of rain and in a hurry.
I love living in Colorado, it's an amazing place to experience!!
Here is a picture of another Colorado storm. This one is featured on the http://www.coloradoprospector.com/ this month.
Lovin' the camera Chris!!
Colorado has lots of beautiful wildflowers. Here is a closeup of some yellow ones.
I love the little seed pod in the last picture. I zoomed into the picture to get a better look and noticed a wild critter hair on the pod.
It's a great time to take a relaxing drive and enjoy some of the great color changing going on.
Here is a peak at what can be seen here in Colorado right now.
Beauty around every curve!!
wish this last picture was a picture of my new "homestead"!ive got "Colorado fever" bad!
Hey Russau,
Here is another spot that would make for a nice backdrop to your homestead. I found it while out archery hunting this year.
AHHHHHHHHH! Woody i fell better now!thanks!
Great picture Woody! Here is a shot of a dirt road with the fall colors.
Also pictured on the http://www.coloradoprospector.com/ this month
Good fall pics you guys!
Inspired me to add one. This is a little splash of color from one of the Aspens in the front yard.
I'll add one as well, Here is a photo of an aspen stand from my bowhunting trip this year, the colors where fantastic this year.
Great time of year & great colors.
Here is a picture I took during hunting season 2010. I was home on mid-tour from Iraq. I swear far away troubles just seem to melt away when you are in a place like this. My family first started hunting this area in the 50's.
Great pictures guys!!
It is definately a great time of year. Here is another fall shot of here in Colorado right now.
Just wanted to add a few pic's from driving on Bull Domingo today.... the Sangre's after Sunday's weather system.
"Cool" pictures Caveman! We noticed the same thing Sunday morning. One of the reasons were scampering like ants to gather the firewood. Snow is on it's way! Will be no time before it hits the lower elevations.
Got to do the same here..... Got plenty on the property, and near the cabin too. I just have to find time to cut it. Got more pic's, I'll post them later. Gotta run to Canon.
Drat - my morning pic's of the view of the peaks from my front porch were too washed out to use. I'll use the Pentax tomorrow......
I took a panorama shot of the Aspens at the jobsite today with my droid. Some lucky folks have this for their view.
Fantastic picture Chris!
It definately shows the quickly changing colors of fall. A very peaceful looking area!
Hiked up to Horsethief Falls this weekend. Some great colors, but a lot of the leaves had already fallen from the trees.
I love Colorado!!
Fantastic pictures Crusty!!! The leaves pictures is awesome, love the colors! You definately have a good eye for photography! I agree, I love Colorado!!
BRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrr!
Here is a "cool" look at one of Colorado's 14'ers.
A big peeking peak?
thanks Mrs CP this is TEXAS MARK thanks for the welcome to the forum . How do I start wanted thread? thanks for advice. Can you please tell me how Mark
You are very welcome Mark! Good to see you got that thread posted ok.
Colorado is an amazing place! Just when you think you have climbed to the top of the world, around the next curve reveals a higher peak awaiting a greater challenge. Love it!! So many amazing places to explore and treasures that this land has to offer.
Very cool! Very cool indeed!
Very nice capture Chris!
Am I the only one thinking the bull in the back equals dinner plus a trophy?
Awesome shot of elk rush hour!
Very nice shot!!
