As does this organization attempt to do for prospectors/miners in Colorado, the South West Oregon Mining Association is an organized group of miners and others actively working to preserve and protect the mining heritage of South Western Oregon. This organization takes a proactive stance toward the promotion and protection of mining in Oregon elsewhere.

smileywaving.gif Hi MEG, and thank you for the link. Working to preserve and protect the mining heritage is very important, but not just for one state though.... for all of AMERICA! emoticon-object-018.gif

So not to confuse anyone, I wanted to clarify something here a bit.

The ColoradoProspector site does more than "attempt" to help miners/prospectors. We have helped and continue to help many, and not just in Colorado, but also in many other states. Federal law applies for our national public land...No matter what state you're refering too. We teach all miners/prospectors (from any part of the country) the importance of knowing the laws on an individual basis, to impower them on how to enact upon their rights to mine. We feel thats not something an organization can do for them, as each individual must know for themselves as a bonafied miner/prospector in the field. ColoradoProspector's procative stance is to maintain an open forum where we as a collective can find the resources needed, and interact with others on the same interest. This is accomplished via the Colorado Prospector club memberships support/participation which helps keep this resource open for anyone to utilize in any state. ColoradoProspector club members are from states all over the country, and many of them are active claim owners and full time miners that love and utilize the free information we provide here.

If we all work together learning and knowing the laws, then the better understanding each person will have as an individual working in the field.

cool.gif Knowledge is power, especially on a personal basis.

Mrs.CP, I intended no disrespect.
I used “attempt” because what comes to mind with the information we share with others is that we can not force the infomration upon people...you know that adage "You can lead a horse to water, but can not make it drink". The best we can do is make an offer, the "attempt". In that way in those that accept it, we are working to preserve and protect the mining heritage.... for all of AMERICA!, as you said. The grant of the mineral estate is for all unappropriated public domain, transcending any local association. And it seems, I need to contact the Webmaster. It appears he may have omitted a word, "Oregon and elswhere."

No disrespect taken MEG, the wording just sounded a little off to me so I wanted to clarify more about the CP site. smile.gif

Thanks Meg......I hope your adding the ColoradoProspector website to other forums as your doing other websites/forums here?
I didnt see the ColoradoProspector.com link presented on the SWOMA link page. After all, this is a great open resource for all to use, and thats what the internet is all about, sharing good information with others right.

There has been quite a number of inquiries as to the SWOMA (Mining Rights (dot) org) site www.miningrights.org being down. It has been and is going through scheduling maintenance and up-grades for a day or so. The up-grades and such are being made to improve up-loading and downloading speeds of the content provided on the site. I’m told it should be back up today sometime. Your patients is appreciated.

I've moved the above post over to the appropriate thread for their websites updates. Haven't had a chance to check the updates, will try to check on them later.

Yes mine dumps are part of the mines property, that has always been the case.
But yet there are many who will take material from a mines dump thinking it's a free for all. It's still mineral tresspass and a crime to steal minerals from any mines dumps or surface without the claim owners permission to take those samples or prospect.

Oregon Sheriff Draws Line in the Sand; Challenges the Authority of USFS in
Grant County

Quite recently, the South West Oregon Mining Association was able to
obtain a copy of a letter written by Grant County, Oregon Sherrif Glenn E.
Palmer addressed to Teresa Raaf who is a Supervisor with the United States
Forest Service in the Malheur National Forest.

In his letter of March 31st, 2011, Palmer addresses USFS's lack of
jurisdiction to engage in law enforcement within his county and states in
part that "your jurisdiction as I see it, is limited to the Federal
Building in John Day (Oregon)".
