Just got her today, she doesn't even have a name yet! I'll post some pictures of the interior later, it's basically a bare box right now as all of the original gear from the back was removed at some point. I plan to turn it into a camper, but not until I get around to rebuilding the motor first. It has a really tired and sad sounding 318 under the hood.

This one has a lot of lifter chatter and sounds like it might have a spun bearing. I'll probably rebuild it as a 360. Or if I can find a cheap mid 90's ram I'll use the drive train from that.

I'd look into an old, mechanically injected Cummins 6 cylinder.......

Have you tried to find a 12 valve for a reasonable price?

No, but then, I have not needed one - I have an old '87 Dodge Power Wagon flatbed snowplow truck with a 318 that needs some work, but still runs - the tranny still works too, but also needs some TLC. I might look into a BT4 with a turbo for this (next year), though.... I need the power, not speed, as it will not be going on the highway for ANY reason, it's strictly a plow/hay mover. And, yes - it's THUGLY! biggrin.gif

Yeah, 12 valves go for around $2500 and up, I tried to find one for my blazer and gave up. I'll rebuild the 318 as a 360 with an RV can and have plenty of power. It's the gearing that really kills it, I'd get probably 6mpg going up to the claim as it sits right now. Need to convert to part time 4WD and find a transmission with an overdrive, maybe a NV4500.

I had a friend that went to Ranken trade school here in St. Louis Misery and he told me that people can bring in a engine and they will rebuild it for parts alone. it may take sometime to get it done but for the price of parts alone its a great deal! look around to see if you have a trade school close to you!

That's a great tranny, and would work with a BT4 (and a BT6) turbo. It would not be fast, but you would maintain speed up all but the steepest grades, and still have pretty good over-all mileage to boot. Altitude would make no difference, either. Too bad the BT6's are so expensive, it's a great engine. And too bad that you would need a complete engine, not just the core. The 360 is also a great conversion, just a gas hog, though not as bad as a Hemi. You should wind up at around 15 to 16 highway on the straight & level with the weight of that truck. Good luck!
