Did anyone catch the article in Sunday's Post (7/19) on panning? Travel section about 25 things to do in the west. They mentioned panning, specifically at the Phoenix Mine in Idaho Springs. I called the mine - they get $8 a day to pan, $100 to set up a sluice. Don't know about their success, but the gentleman I spoke with said someone found a nugget worth a couple hundred a few days ago and another found a quartz/gold rock estimated at over $2-3,000. Also said you should easily be able to pan $100 or more in a day and quite a bit more with a sluice - that makes sense. I wonder if anyone has tried up there. I may give it a shot one day this summer - open from 10am to 5 pm.
