I am a new member & my question is if the Gold N Sand hand pump collection device as sold on eBay would be an illegal device to use at Fairplay (CO) Beach. I have the permit in hand, but have not visited there yet. Has anyone had experience with this item? It looks pretty cool and I'm probably going to get one, if not for here, then other places. Thanks for you advice.

Hi panner1947, welcome to the group!

According to the rules printed on the permit, I would guess that no, it's probably frowned upon.

"1. Mining shall be limited to individual gold panning by persons using hand tools, consisting of a
pick, shovel and a gold pan and to gravity flow sluices. All other mechanical, electrical or hand
pump sluice devices are prohibited and shall be subject to confiscation by the Town."

Of course, I could be wrong. You might concider contacting them and asking the question directly.

The Beach is a great place to learn. I found my first color there. Good luck and have fun!

I bought one and used it once... then bought a dredge and never looked back. I can't attest for how well it works as I've never really had a chance to test it properly. Now it's collecting dust and taking up space. If you want it for $50 it's yours, I think I paid $100 for it new. No shipping though, you'd have to meet me up here for the transaction. Based on the regs that Boogie posted, it doesn't look like they want you to use one there.
