We are getting a second chance to comment on the National Monument if you have the desire. National Monuments are totally controlled as recreational areas with location rights removed. In virtually all instances that I know of public use is at the whim of the agency and most activities are very much curtailed or stopped all together like prospecting. East Fork of the San Gabriel River is one that comes to mind that is most recent. There is a web site page that is devoted to this that is a part of the Trump Administration attempt to right some of the wrongs that were done to many of the citizens of America. the web site is https://www.regulations.gov/document?D=DOI-2017-0002-0001 This may also spur a change to the Antiquities Act of 1906 so that areas that are to be removed from public lands would have to go through a procedural Process with commenting not just signed in by a president without any public input. location of web page ALL but one monument is open to comment for changes in status or for making smaller until mid July 2017 Make your voice heard |
