Howdy all,
I'm thinking of procuring two different hand dredge devices and would like to know if anyone has used these and if they are any good? I'm getting a Chucks Gold Trapper and the Adult Gold Sucker. I've seen Chucks unit used on Gold Fever and looks like a great way to get into those spots where dredges dare not roam, and to do sampling.
The Gold sucker unit has two check valves and doesn't need to be lifted out of the hole, which makes good sense.

Any opinions?

I've got a Chucks and I don't see how you could beat it. It has a flapper at the bottom and you just keep pumping until it's full or you get tired. The flapper keeps you from losing anything when you pull it out of the water.

All,
If my typing is shall we say "off", please excuse me. I've been up since 3 pm yesterday, worked all night, then made the pilgrimage up to Chucks in Windsor to meet the legendary engineer in his own element (and get a Trapper on the cheap!). Ole Chuck is a really nice gentleman with some serious engineering prowess. He showed me how the unit worked, then showed me his homemade sluice with the angled head end which keeps the sluice from floating away. Man, I woulda never thought of that! I guess that's why he's the mech design engineer and I'm just a fiber engineer. :P
I definitely recommend that if you ever get the chance, head on up there and meet the guy. Definitely worth the drive. I'll be trying out the new unit on some nice spots in Clear Creek that I've been eyeing as a dredgible area. I can't wait to freeze my posterior lookin for some 'o dat yeller stuff.

Hey CB,
I went right to the source. That way I didn't have to pay for some retailers overhead or shipping. Just cost me a few bucks in gas, and his price. He sells them directly for $40. His shop is on the southern edge of Windsor CO over by Greeley. That might be a day trip for ya tho. Here's his contact info:

Chuck Cummins
(970) 686-2238
chuck2238@aol.com

Just give him a call to set up an appointment for pickup.

Russ,
I can't wait to get that unit into the stream. I'm gonna try it out this weekend!!! Ooooo that water is gonna be COLD!!! laugh.gif

Gettin to be that season!!!!!!!!!!! LETS DIG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, I guess the old saying "the proof is in the pudding" applies here. Hats off to Chuck and his amazing device. I had the Work Rage flames burnin today and to put them out, I decided to brave the wind and the rain and hit the creek.
Well sir, 4 pulls on that plunger and my feet and fingers were numb. I dumped the contents in me pan and BLAMMO!!!!!!!!! Instant gratification!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll be back this weekend for another round!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Mrs. can dig up the pics of him playing with it last summer and post one.
Chuck is one heck of a nice guy and I bet he would ship right to ya Carl if you send a payment his way with a shippin addy.

We got to meet Chuck last year at the GPAA gold show in Denver, and he brought up a trapper to donate for the Rocky Mountain Miners Rally. Thanks again Chuck.

We use ours quite a bit and they will work the upper shoulders right now! laugh.gif
It is great for the little spots that get deep under the rock and the shovel can't get.

^_^ looks like a great prospecting tool, i bought a cheaper model, no flapper, so you had to pull then stick your hand under the tube then dump into a pan, all in one motion, well it sucked, and not in the good meaning of the word...lol....get chucks :P
