Thank You for the words of encouragement Denise,

But has you can see... it failed. You were able to squeeze in that response just before I got the final pic sent. I would of liked to have had your guidance on doing some of this stuff, learning on one's own comes with hard lessons.

I hope you are making the best of things, Woody.

QUOTE (Woody @ Mar 1 2018, 07:25 PM) *
I should of left well enough alone! In the end, it was the heat that actually caused the breakage. When I try to get that Hi-gloss shine, I'm having to find the exact amount of pressure to apply to the stone. It kind of "burns" a shine into the material. It's
all kind of hard to describe but maybe someone with more subject knowledge than I have can do a better job. All I know is... I should of stopped while I was ahead ~

Darn it, and it was coming along nicely. This happen quite often, especially if you get the stone too hot! When polishing, just remember to keep the polish pad wet. This not only helps keep the stone from getting too hot but also keeps any dust down. Opal are really sensitive to getting too hot and the heat shatters the stone. I use a squirt bottle to spray it while I am polishing it. It also helps keep the stone from grabbing the polish pad making it hard to control the stone. Too much pressure on the stone will also cause it to heat too quick. Just a slight amount of pressure is all you need from shape to polish. happy088.gif Too much pressure to rush the process will also cause your wheels to wear out quicker....and those things are expensive!

If you ever have any questions about any of the processes just ask, even in personal message if you prefer. I would be happy to help in any way that I can. smile.gif
