A friend in the club came across a LARGE chunk of palmwood. I don't know where he gets some of the stuff he gets but this was a killer find. The piece was so big he had to use the 24 inch saw to cut it. This slab was about the fourth cut into it. It's 93/4 inches long and 73/4 inches at it's widest. It's about 3/8 inch thick. There's enough left that he can cut a dozen more. LOL and most will be bigger than this one.

Purty is right! That's some bizarre looking petrified wood... almost looks like a type of sponge with all the pores.

That's a very nice piece of palm wood Jim, very cool find for sure. Is that going to be polished out as is with the dark center?
I'll pop this thread on over to the new "fossil" section of the forum too, nice fossil for sure! CP -------------------- CP-Owner/Administrator

Naaa I don't have a way to polish something so big. Even the club has no way. I gave away the home made vibe lap that I had to one of the new members in the club. And no it will not be cut for cabs. Too dang purty. I'll most likely use it for a display base.

Sweet piece of Palm wood Jim!
I would be crazy enough to try to polish that beauty with the dremel......That is if the initial cut was clean enough. I have a Del Norte agate slab the size of my palm that I hand polished with the dremel. Turned out pretty nice, but the project Im using it for isnt complete yet. That slab would definately make a great display slab for finished jewelry I think. -------------------- Education is the key to the future,
