I added part of my last post to the "Comments" section of the article.... I would recommend that you do the same.
Larimer County needs a wake-up call. Have to register to comment but it's not a hassle. -------------------- /l ,[____], l---L-OlllllllO- ()_) ()_)--o-)_) BLACK SANDS MATTER! Very Happy CP Lifetime Member CP CORE TEAM Referral Code CE213 |

Grandpa used to say IF is a big word..........IF a buzzard had a radio up it's arse there'd be music in the air......IF.....but that don't mean squat! Wow, those folks attending the meeting up there in Larimer county were sure lost on the property ownership concept. Should have been a simple enough task to call the county attorney and ask a simple question.....we don't know if we own mineral rights to the park properties, should we be allowing gold panning/mineral sampling? Answer ..... Nope! I couldn't agree more Dan! You are right Chris, they definately need a wake up call! I can understand wanting to have a little fun but not at the expense of the mineral owner....or any owner for that matter. -------------------- Education is the key to the future,

That is a shame that these county officials don't have a clue, BUT IGNORANCE OF THE LAW IS NO EXCUSE!, It's the folks that are prospecting/rec-panning that are responsible for their actions, it's their responsibilaty to know who owns the land/mineral rights not the county government, so the county is stepping out of authority to say it is ok or not, these individuals should know before even sticking a shovel in the ground first. We have some of the same issues in the denver area as well, but most the mineral rights have been withdrawn from mineral claim or can't be claimed because it doesn't fall under the 1872 mining laws and such because the land is NOT publicly held trust lands for the people(private), BUT, the lands are still under ownership and you can't just go dig up someones property because it is not posted, in Colorado a land owner is NOT required by law to post their property, it's up to the individuals to know the ownership and boundy's, it's writen in the CRS of the state. You guys are right someone is going to get into trouble, the individual brakeing the law.

Classic example of "the blind leading the blind". Larimer County needs lasik surgery.
